The Vampire Diaries

Vanessa winced at his touch, shaking slightly in his arms.

"What?! Why the hell would you do that?! She killed your baby Nate, didn't even tell you about it! Now shift away so I can finish her off, so she can't hurt you like that again."

"I said no, Ellie. Now leave her alone." Nate told her firmly, locking eye contact with his sister to try and make her back down whilst he ran his fingertips up and down Vanessa's arm soothingly.

"First pack baby in over a decade Nate!" Ellie protested. "Your son or daughter, my niece or nephew, stolen because she's too selfish to think of others!" she hissed, though buckled under the eye contact and whispered "Fine, just remember the next time you go near her that your kid could've been inside there, the next time you call her angel just remember an angel wouldn't kill an innocent baby."

Vanessa coughed harshly, doubling over and spitting out blood before slumping over unconscious.

"Go, Ellie." Nate told her, waiting a moment until he was sure she would do as he said before he lifting Vanessa into his arms and pressed his lips to her forehead gently, wiping the blood away from the side of her mouth.

"I can't believe she's got you wrapped around her little finger still. Just remember what I said. Your baby, not just hers." she muttered, before walking out of the alley and away.

Vanessa was still in Nates arms, unmoving apart from shallow breaths.

Nate just sighed before heading back towards his home.

Vanessa groaned in pain at the movement of him walking, waking up and shrinking into herself and pressing her forehead against his chest. "Nate?" she whispered, checking it was him and not someone else that had picked her up.

"No I couldn't sleep."

"Mm, you'll be okay, angel," He soothed gently.

Falin frowned.

"Maybe I should leave, I don't want to be causing arguments between you and your family." Vanessa mumbled, coughing again with a groan.

"No, don't leave," Nate whispered with a sigh, placing her on the bed when they got to his, "She'll stop now, she shouldn't hurt you."

He dropped down to the floor.

Vanessa nodded with a groan, moving her hold her head in her hands to ease the pain.

"You okay?" Falin asked quietly.

"I'll get you some pain killers and if it's still hurting in a few hours we'll bring you to the hospital," Nate told her, leaving the room and coming back a few minutes later, handing her a glass of water and two painkiller tablets.

Vanessa mumbled a thanks, taking the tablets and downing the water, setting the glass on the side. "Wasn't how I expected my return to go at all." she mumbled. "Sorry for dragging you out of work for this."

He nodded. "Are you?"

He shook his head and sat himself down beside her, wrapping an arm around her. Not saying a word in response.

Falin nodded.

Vanessa rested her head on him, curling up against him and closing her eyes.

"Well I'm going for a shower before we decide to go out, care to join me?" He asked her playfully.

"I might when I wake up a little more," Falin smirked.

Nate ran his fingertips up and down her arm gently.

Vanessa soon fell asleep against him, sleeping off the painkillers for quite some time.

"Alright then." He kissed her gently.

Falin smiled.

Nate watched her sleep quietly before leaning his head back and closing his own eyes.

He headed into the bathroom, sliding his shirt off as he did so.

Vanessa woke up after a few hours, stretching lightly with a wince and sitting up on the bed.
