Blake laughed. "If you planned on getting free you would have done so." He continued on his way without so much as another word as he looked around again, though he kept alert just in case Elias tried anything.

"It's more dangerous there. The tension is greater, maybe because it's a bit more populated." Sophia whispered, "Are you alone here? Have you got any of your family left?"

---
Jake just swallowed thickly, remaining as he was.

----
"I've seen the kid!" Elias yelled after him, "Well, not seen; I heard the kid. He went towards the forest, lots of my kind in there so I doubt he's still breathing. There was talk of someone stabbing one of yours earlier today, might be the kid, might not be the kid; I don't know."

She shook her head. "No...Just me....They were killed months ago, I took my time taking revenge."
_______

She came back after a few minutes with a bottle of strong alcohol. "Here, I got the strongest that I could find." She told him, and she held it out to him.

Blake paused midstep the wheels in his head turning. "Why are you telling me this? I don't need to be ambushed... I need to find him." He turned to eye Elias.

"I'll have whatever is left.. It- It's for the wound. Pour it in the wound, it'll disinfect it, that way I won't have an infection. Pour it in and then stitch it up really quickly. Please... Fast."

---
Sofia nodded, "It seems you and I are rather similar."

---
"As I said, he was going towards the forest. You're lucky he's just a kid or I wouldn't of been so generous with that information."

She nodded and she lifted his shirt just enough to have full access to the wound and she started to stitch him once she poured the alcohol on the wound. She moved pretty quickly, trying to limit his pain as much as she could.
__________

She nodded. "It does."

"Cut the nail loose from the wall, that's all I need you to do. I can get the metal out from my skin somewhere else; somewhere safer." He mumbled, "Unless you know another way, these cruel little snags are of course traps set by your kind."

---
Jake cried out when the alcohol went into the wound, hands clenching to the point his nails broke against the stone bricked floor of the cabin. As soon as the stitches were done, he forced himself to his feet; stumbling initially but quickly regaining his balance.

---
"It's safer in numbers, stick with me? None of them will be able to touch us then."

Eliza nodded. "Alright, that sounds like a good plan." She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a hunting knife. "But it also helps to be prepared."

The edges of Sophia's mouth twitched down into a frown when she saw the knife, shaking her head in the negative she hummed. "I tend not to carry weapons, they weigh me down and I've seen too many who carry them be killed with their own knives. It's much better to go old fashioned, no cheating; it makes it feel more fair and more rewarding if you win against a weaponed opponent."

---

"In this cabin or in this area?"

---
"Ditch it; it'll weigh you down. It'll be used against you more than you will use it. It isn't worth the risk, keep yourself light, agile. Follow me, I'll show you the city, it's useful to know the alleyways, the routes. Even if you aren't their often, you have to learn the surroundings."

"Cabin; since I dragged myself into it after I was jumped which was... this morning, perhaps. I- I don't know the day has all been a bit of a blur. No sense of time when your bleeding out. This area, born and raised here. It is my home."

---
Sophia tucked her wings into her back, jumping down from the ledge and heading through the forest towards the city.

"For escape, if needed; to hang out if possible." She told him. "I only got here last night, so I don't know what is ours and what is theirs kind of thing."
_______

She looked at her. "We had gone to the far edges of the city, places where no one ever went, we were attacked at dusk, just as we were preparing to set off for a flight." She told her. "My sister and I set off first, my brother stayed behind with out mother to make sure that we flew easily...They looked like a Harpie coming towards us, and suddenly there was trouble on the ground. One cut through my brother's throat, the other stabbed my mother through the heart." She sighed. "I threw my knife into the one going for me, but the other got my sister." She looked at her. "What about your special one?"

"There are no boundaries," Jake replied, voice lowering as he made his way to the window to peer out of it. "It is all mixed now, we had unspoken boundaries; unspoken safe places but with so many people moving in and out of the area every day the lines have become blurred and now they have diminished completely. You have to stay alert, every moment. I was lucky you found me and not one of them, I heard a few of them move past the cabin. "

----
"Mm, my husband. It was my husband I lost, I never really had any family, the closest thing I had to family was him. We would talk about dying for each other before the war broke out, I never thought he would end up actually doing it. It was our own kind that forced him out, they told us we had to get involved in the war or we would be killed; we got pushed out into a swarm of them and he protected me from them. He told me to fly, so I did."

----
"You said you would be fair, that you'd help so you cut the nail. I can't, I can't reach it."

"Mm," Jake hummed, "So, Carter you said? What kind of alcohol did you get for us to drink? I certainly need some after that experinced." he chuckled. "Lets enjoy the moments of peace that we have."
___
"Mm, something like that. It's been an adjustment with him gone. But, many people have suffered lose so I tend not to linger too much on it, I don't want to deminish other peoples right to grieve with my own."
____
Elias stumbled a few steps as soon as he was free, the wings unfurling fromcthe slits in his back eagerly to stretch them out and shake the blood from them. "I'll help you find the boy, if you wish. Aerial views are useful in finding little runaways."
