The Great War

"Whirlwinds. I'm the youngest now, they think they have to protect me; it's probably where they are now, out looking but we say to always meet back here so I see no point in me going to look for them. Hunter is stressed, all the time, he's seen things that he never talks about but it's the reason his hair is greying. The stress and what he's seen.  Marie looks helpless but she knows karate, reacts like a lightning bolt."

Marie's eyes opened and her head turned to the side to look towards him so fast it was surprisibg she didn't injure herself. Her fingers curling into her palms as she looked the man who seemed only two years her senior over, biting her lower lip in thought.

"Get out of here," Hunter responded bluntly. "What gives your kind any right to peace, you've never allowed us to have it."

"The action of my people can not be placed on my shoulders alone." Eliza told him.

Jason sat down at the edge of the lake, he seemed to finally be relaxing and taking some time to relax.

Carter nodded, letting that information sink in. "They sound great...Would they really be alright with me being here?"

"You're our kind, it's Harpy's they hate."

"You look beat," Marie hummed, wandering over to him after a few moments. Sitting herself down cross-legged beside him. "Have you travelled far?"

"As if you are innocent."

He tensed when she made her way over, but relaxed when he saw her unarmed. "Six countries west." He told her, looking to her. "Hitchicked when I could, walked the rest." He shrugged. "What about you? Travelling? Or looking for peace and quiet?"

She shrugged. "Think what you like."

Carter nodded. "That I understand, I just didn't know if they would think me in the way."

"Peace and quiet for the moment, I'm out looking for someone... Got into a bit of a scrap with a group of Harpies, they came out of it looking worse than I do though."

"I'm not stupid, no one is innocent anymore. No one has gotten away from spilling blood; even Jake has hurt people and he thinks this is all pointless."

Carter nodded. "Okay, point well made."

"You look pretty good for being in a scrap." He told her. "Would you like some help?" He asked.

Marie laughed, shaking his head in the negative as she leant forward, resting her arms on her knees. "No, no it's okay."

"I make lots of those."

"Exactly, so your not innocent."

"Alright, if you do, I'll probably be here."

Carter smiled.

She shrugged.

"Is that a subtle way of you asking me to leave so you can have blissful solitude?"

"Of course not, I'm starting to like your company."

"Mm, and we don't even know each others names. How mysterious."

"Well, we should get introduced."

"Marie, I'm Marie."

"Jason." He told her.

"Mm, no... I dont like that, you got a middle name?"

"Connor." He told her after raising an eyebrow.

"Better, I'm going to call you Connor."

He laughed. "Alright," He told her. "I've been called worse."

"Like what?"

He gave her a few words, usually what they were called by the other creatures, and they did not actually seem to bother him.

"What harpies think are irrelevant."

"That is true, it makes me laugh that they think that we care about what they think of us." He told her, leaning back to lie back on the ground as he watched the sky.

"If they've hurt Jake..."
