Hope Falls

Conan jumped slightly, head snapping up along with the rest of his posture to be almost military straight. Eyes rolling as his shoulders relaxed: "Here I was thinking you would know better than to believe mortal myths. You know I have said plenty worse, and that is whilst being at home. I brought you a coffee."

“It’s almost like you knew I haven’t slept… I wonder why I haven’t slept?” Dagmar mused as she sat down and grabbed the spare coffee, fiddling at the lid. “Maybe there’s a reason why I’ve been working overtime, maybe there’s been some splash of big news that’s got everyone pissed off and riled and us poor little messenger birds have been run ragged trying to settle things… wouldn’t know anything about that would you now, Angel?”

"How am I to know? Everything is going crazy ghe moment, I can hardly keep all of my hens in a row; like the mortals call it. I was suggested one of these things..." Conan wiggled the phone in her direction before dropping it onto his lap. "Useless." He continued, evading the real conversation. "It just blinds me and won't let me do anything. I prefer the larger ones that only text and call."

“They’ve over complicated things here, the humans. Who wants to be easily accessible twenty four seven?” Dagmar chuckled, shaking her head as she watched him, though her smile faded after a few seconds. “The Guardians are talking about assigning you a retinue. Your little secret has made you a target and now nobody is to be trusted. You didn’t think about your own personal safety before you exposed yourself did you?”

"Oh Dasha, darling, you keep on and you'll almost make me think that you care about my 'personal safety'." Conan hummed cheerily, shifting his weight to more comfortable look at her; shooting an open-mouthed grin, accompanied with a playful wink. "I done what needed to be done, everything is fine - it was safe. There have been absolutely no repercussions."

Dagmar inhaled as if to say something before shaking her head and smacking his arm. “Darling me one more time and I’ll no longer be considered a neutral party. Your wings would make a nice decoration in my home… they’d also make great pillow stuffers so keep your mouth closed unless it’s for adoration next time.”

"A strange way to ask me to move in with you but I will accept it. We will have to set a couple of ground rules though; I will get the biggest room, I need the bathroom for approximately four minutes and seventeen second at 3 hundred and 17 hundred hours and then for two minutes at 23 hundred hours and 8 hundred hours, I also need my own closet; preferably walk in because the wings need space to. - we'll write up a contract or something. Don't worry." Conan waved the conversation away with a delicate wave of his hand, leaning back to laugh.

“Men are still prohibited from our quarters at home and the places I stay here on earth are hardly fit for a Prince now are they, Coco? Your earthly homes on the other hand are rather spectacular - so I’ve heard. It’s only more fitting I move in with you no?”

Conan wrinkled his nose in disgust at the nickname, fingertips tapping against the bench in mild agitation. "Sometimes I think I miss your visits but then I realise I have simply forgotten how..." He trailed off, unable to find the right word before giving up entirely. "Why are you here?"

“You do miss me.” Dagmar insisted cheerily as she took a sip of her drink. “Firstly - I wasn’t joking about The Guardians. They want a meeting with you at some point to discuss giving you some protection until your own people have sorted themselves out and you’ve picked a guard from them that’s trustworthy. Secondly… The Norns have sent me to collect an Oracle. She’s had her earthly visions and it’s time for her to begin her training with them. Several Seers have been killed in the last few months, so it’s not something that’s negotiable anymore despite her apparent attempts to stay Earthside.”

"There are very few trustworthy people and the thought of sitting down with The Guardian's sounds like the biggest bore of my life. Do I really have to do it? I should be allowed to have control over these things now. As for the Oracle, I know of her; she is Scarlet's little friend." He snorted softly, "You'll make her and her brother very displeased to be taking that one away."

“They warned me it would be difficult, never did say why.” Dagmar snorted, shaking her head. “Fucking Fates. They could’ve warned me what I was walking into. You’d think being high up in the chain of command would offer me a bit more leniency with information but apparently not.” She sighed, wrinkling her nose. “There’s nothing they can do - to stop me breaches the whole me being a neutral party thing. And it’s not like I’m killing her - she’s set to die and I’m set to take her where her soul belongs. Simple as…” she sighed in exasperation once more, moving her hand to the nape of her neck and twirl the hair there round her finger in an absent gesture. “It is boring sitting with them but we have to keep everyone on even footing and you’re not on even footing with the others right now. Besides, the girls picked will be some of our best and you’re pretty enough that they’re all eagerly practicing in hopes they’ll get picked so don’t act like you won’t be enjoying the attention.” She grinned, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes as she still stressed about The Oracle.

"Ah, now, now. Damn is a naughty word where I am, but it is minor compared to the slander against the Fates that just escaped your mouth, darling." Conan tutted, keeping his voice light as his hand moved across to rest fingertips against her knee and squeeze in silent support. "This is probably just a test; a trial, tribulation. Whatever. You'll be able to handle it, and if you need me to accompany you I will. I've not met the Oracle but I have arranged a nice little treaty signing with the Dark Ones father recently, so they listen to me. I think that is also because I am pretty."

“Is that you offering to help me? Flexing your Prince Charming muscles there I see. Not only is he pretty but it turns out he has a heart as well” Dagmar laughed, relaxing a little at his touch, though the noise was still somewhat shaky as she tried to pull herself together. “I have three days before I’m recalled back home by force, hopefully it won’t get that far… either way I can’t fail. Failing just isn’t an option…” she murmured before moving her hand to smack his arm again as realisation hit her. “Don’t call my bluff Angel or I’ll be returning back home with both The Oracle and with your wings to stuff my pillows with.” She smirked

"That is it. I am reporting you; that is an act of aggression not neutrality." Conan gasped, moving his arm away and rubbing it with a pout before his expression lifted again. "Three days, we can get you what you need within two. That gives me a whole twenty four hours to find someone who can create a stuffed toy of me for you to bring home with you; that'll be much more easy to transport for you than my wings. Those things are massive, I have many massive things. Heart, wings..." He wiggled his eyebrows at her with a playful smirk.

“You’re hardly celibate, I’ve listened to plenty of stories I don’t need a demonstration. I believe the claims.” Dagmar waved him off with a snort. “Nothings bigger than your ego though. I swear when we met I thought it couldn’t get any bigger and yet… it has.”

"Because you have remained ever so humble and that is how you have managed to work your way up through the ranks, you never even stepped on any heads to get there. It was all done completely fairly." He laughed quietly. "If you can't advocate for yourself then no one will ever want to advocate for you, you taught me that."

“I taught you to be humble at the same time, never taught you to spend your time bragging about your massive… wingspan.” Dagmar grinned, moving her hand away from her neck as she fully relaxed then.

"It isn't my fault the Creators made the two things correlate. If anything I am a victim of that biology; it is rather.... what's the word..." He grimaced, waving the topic away once again. "Will you be wanting my help with the Oracle?"

“What will you want in return? To remain neutral I can’t owe you, you know that. If anyone finds out I owe you for a favour it compromises me. They could clip my wings.”

"You put up with being called darling for the next, I don't know...two decades? Mm, I think two decades is more than reasonable."

“That’s borderline torture!” Dagmar shook her head in exaggeration. “Come on, think of something more weighty than just a nickname for the level of help I’ll be accepting.”

"I don't believe it is a huge level of help." Conan laughed a little nervously then. "I think our levels of priority, no not of priority but of.... oh I need lessons in expressions. You will have to give me time to think of something, or tell me what you can offer if you want to hurry it all along. I want very little from you."

“You know how to make a girl feel wanted.” Dagmar chuckled at that. “Can honestly say no man has ever told me that before, congratulations on being the first. But you can have your time, don’t need to set the terms out until I collect The Oracle, mm?”
