Sarika took in a deep breath to centre herself before rolling over to face him. Fingertips gently running up and down his arm. "I love you."

"Mm," She hummed, leaning up to press her lips to his forehead before tucking herself into a ball and letting her eyes close.

"You know the ones asshole, dick, fool, halfwit. Oh I had ignoramus once, that one was a fun one." Dušan laughed quietly. "Now I get to tick idiot off of the bingo card."

“Well you did work behind a bar, I’d be surprised if it was all polite in there.”

"The abusive patrons were my favourite." Dušan laughed before his smile faded and his tone turned sombre. "I worked so hard on that place."

"Izsak?" Matilda wheezed through gritted teeth from where she was curled up on her bed, hugging a pillow against her stomach.  "Can you bring me in some.. some.. anything to numb it all. My sisters, with the witches are... getting worse."

“When you gave me the same herbs you’ve taken a few months ago you said drinking on it would be bad in the long run.” Izsak grimaced, closing the book he was reading on her couch and placing it on the table before heading over to the bed, crouching down so he was on her level.

“I know… I know. But you’ll rebuild after the war. Bigger, better, with war trophies on the wall attracting more in… the way humans display their sports shirts.”

"I can feel their crush wounds, every moment of it." She wheezed. "The herbs aren't enough. I - I have whisky in the cupboard - you can have some yourself if you get me some."

Dušan laughed quietly, his mood lightening once more. "Do you think I would be that smug? Do you think I'm brave enough to earn anything like that?"

"Oh fuck." Karina grimaced as she went to stand up to see to the crying children, physically heaving with the pain the movement caused in her side. As her hand went to rub the spot, her top rode up to reveal a dark and deep bruise against her skin.

“You said alcohol would act like a slow poison if I had it with the things you gave me. I’m not letting you poison yourself.” Izsak shook his head, moving around the bed to the other side as he climbed on top of the covers beside her. “Whenever i was suffering after whatever I got doled out that day, I’d go away in my head… Seers have the ability to recall don’t they? Memory, visions. Go away for a while.” He whispered gently. “Disappear into a memory for a few hours…”

“I think a lot of us truly don’t know how we’re react till we’re there. There’ll be members of our community who are buzzing at the thought of finally going to war, they’ll give it the big I am in the tents the night before… but when they’re confronted with a seven foot Fae soldier they’ll shit their selves and turn into a mumbling fool.” Andrea considered thoughtfully. “I think you’ll do what you can to survive, because for all you’re melancholy about life like you still want to live it and getting through it is the only way: you’re powerful; far more so than you allow others to see, and your power is an offensive one, you can wipe out swathes of soldiers with a flick of your palm if they’re not protected…”

“Back into bed Kari, I’ll get them.” Emmett insisted as he pulled himself out of bed beside her.

"I prefer dancing with flames." Dušan whispered absently. "I wouldn't describe myself as melancholy, that is the emotion of attention-seeking teenagers, isn't it? I just detest the pressure of a legacy. I just detest expectation." Turning the hand furthest away from her palm up, he lowered his thumb into the centre where a small flame ignited and danced up his fingers. "Do you think Hendrix is going to wake up? I always thought he'd be the one to lead everyone if something like this happened."

Matilda turned her head to the side to watch him closely, lazily reaching across to poke the tip of his nose. "I'm trying to stop doing that. I need to.. get over things. What's your happy place?"

"I can't keep staying in bed, this could go on for months."

“No.” Andrea replied honestly as she watched the flame, eyes following it as it moved. “I didn’t see but I was told that the inside of his head was visible it was caved in so far. But the healer said he would’ve lost consciousness as soon as he hit so… that’s good to know. That he wasn’t one of those suffering under the rubble for hours.”

Dušan swallowed thickly, waiting until the flame got to the centre or his hand again before curling his hand into a fist and put the flame out. "They should have told each other..."

"I'm their mother. We're equal parents. You can't be expected to do it all when you have work, and training in the day aswell. It isn't fair."

"What's it like... your family being alive? It's been so long for me. I don't remember their voices anymore."

“Who should’ve told each other what?”

“Eris being alive is a fucking inconvenience.” Izsak snorted lightheartedly before shaking his head. “I’m glad I have them.”
