"You called him a kid." Adam told her.

"Called him a kid yesterday and he still spoke to me." She replied with a roll of her eyes, just elbowing Zane and muttering, "Lighten up, will you?"

"Don't see why I should."

"You were fine with me yesterday, nice. Why've you suddenly turned bitter?"

"Hmm let me see because of you going for Alexis I've had her chomping at me all night."

"She's trying to kill me." Scarlett replied bluntly.

"Yeah and you started it."

"And how, hmm? By coming here to protect t my friends. It's not my fault she holds grudges."

"No you hold the grudge more than any of us. You grabbed her by her neck because she was unsure whether you had the immortal mark, and you know that that can signal a need for war."

"You know I thought I could like you." Scarlett spat quietly at Zane, "Alexis hates you, by the way. Heard her talking about you, so don't suck up to her. I stuck up for you, said I liked you."

"Her brother is my master, I would rather not get my head ripped off for bad mouthing her." Zane walked to the table which stood beside her and wiped as much oil off his hands as possible.

"Your scared of him, aren't you?" She asked with a sigh.

"You've seen him when he is angry, its like he is posessed."

Scarlett sighed and rested her hand on his shoulder gently, using her thumb to massage it lightly. "I won't let him hurt you, you know. Any of them."

"They can't do any worse than taking away my freedom." He meant into her.

"Sshh," Scarlett whispered softly in attempts to comfort him, just sliding her arms around him in a hug. "M'here for you, okay? Not just Mason and Liam I'm staying to protect anymore, it's you too."

"You don't have to get involved."

"Already am, unfortunately. Don't act ungrateful." Scarlett whispered.

"As you wish then."

"Mm," She hummed, brushing her fingers through his hair and whispering, "Are you going to cheer up a bit now? Now you know m'here for you, that I won't let Koby or the others hurt you."

"Maybe."

"Come on, I bet you have a handsome smile," Scarlett encouraged gently, pressing her forehead to his and resting her hand on the side of his face. "Let's see it."

He looked at her. "No." He smiled slightly to see that he was joking.

"Told you it was a handsome smile," Scarlett replied with a quiet laugh, brushing her fingertips down the side of his face gently, "Now you just have to wear it more often."

He laughed. "Maybe I will for you."
