The next morning, Lilliana woke before Lucian and got ready for the day practically silently, silently checking on Lucinda and smiling at seeing her still fast asleep before heading to the stables to see if Leo was there.

Leo continued with his work, gently brushing through the horses's hair and running it down with water afterwards to clean it.

Lilliana inhaled sharply, whispering a quiet, "Even after I lay at your side for nights tending to you and praying for your well being, then saving you when I knew how to after you left? Even after I have helped your child get an education and keep you in work by paying for his nurse maid? Even after I saved you at Lady Rhaenys wedding.…even after the other things I have done partly to try and please you?" Staying quiet for a few minutes before asking, "Why am I not worthy of your love?"

Leo sighed deeply through his nose before replying. "When I was twelve, my father was caught abed with a lady. They killed him for it. They both insisted he was her lover and he had not done anything wrong, even the lady. But they killed him all the same because it wasn't proper."
