Hunters and the Hunted

"Ah, I failed to explain properly." Death turned to face her. "When one such as myself, a powerful entity that works without the bonds of rules, we are only given few limitations, albeit powerful ones. What is happening to me is my punishment. I can only take on one lover during my term of service, and that love has to be proven to last, lest it divert my attention. In an awfully crass way of putting this, the powers that be want us to consummate our love, or they see you as a distraction to my focus as just a passing whimsy and so I am replaced. Does that make sense?"

"I just want to be her father. I don't need to be a king so long as she still loves me. I don't want to be a figurehead I just want to be her father." Cain sounding quiet, defeated.

Faye hummed happily as she led him from the room to her parents room.

---

"You would rather I didn't change?" Kai guessed.

"Feeling better?" Indigo asked, getting up to grab a towel.

She nodded. "What would be the point, you wouldn't be able to feel it." She told him, sitting on the bed.

"I know." She told him. "It's a figure of speech."

He went with her.

She shook her head.

"A little, I suppose. I-I'm thirsty but I don't want to risk it."

"This is a step we should have taken some time ago but I felt I couldn't rush it. Should we have done this as dictated I would still be able to feel. As it is, the further we progress, the more I will regain."

Cain nodded quietly, moving to lean against the counter again.

Faye went as if to open the door, thought twice and knocked instead.

---

"Then I won't. It isn't difficult to stay the same."

Indigo offered her wrist out. "Go for it."

"We have less than 18 hours Death, I don't think that time will change anything."

She watched him.

Sirius was on the balcony of his and Tuesday's bedroom.

"ood."

"Are you sure?" Jason seemed doubtful.

"The more we touch, the more I will...repair as it were. If my omission of this information has changed your opinion and feelings for me, then I will simply accept my fate and allow the next horseman of death take my place."

"Did you have anything planned for the day?" Cain asked quietly. "And do you need Ian?"

"Mom? Dad?" Faye called, knocking again.

Tuesday, curled up in the middle of the bed, whined a little at being disturbed.

Kai kissed her cheek. "Let's get home."

"Yeah. I trust that you won't take too much."

She nodded.

Sirius made sure she was wearing some pjs and he walked to the door. "What's up Faye?"

"No, I've got nothing planned." She told him. "But I don't mind, I love you both."
________________

"You know that it hasn't."

Jason took her arm, pressing a kiss to her palm first before hesitantly sinking his teeth into her wrist.

"Then, let's go home and both of us relax."

"I have something important to tell you and mom something."

---

Cain nodded quietly. "I've never thanked you for accepting both of us."

"Then I will leave the final decision as to what happens to you. However, I have approximately." Death checked his watch. "Six hours for you to decide."

Indigo ran her fingers throigh his hair.

"No pressure." She told him with a roll of her eyes, before she walked over to him and slid her arms around him from behimd. "Why can;t you ever tell me anything?"

"You gave me three beautiful children, married me, and put up with my angel mood swings, that's thanks enough."

"Well, come in and tell us." He told her.

She nodded.

Jason drank for a few minutes before letting go and licking the wound clean.

"There is no pressure. You can decide to proceed, or choose not to. I will not judge you differently either way." Death leaned slowly into her with a slight wince. He could apparently feel pain, but that was because it was intense in comparison to anything else. "I did not tell you because I do not like to burden you or hurt you. However, this was something I could not face by myself."

"Well, your mood swings aren't all that bad," Cain teased weakly. "I mean, touch wood, you haven't broken any bones yet."

Faye looked up at Rosco before edging into the room, hesitating at seeing Tuesday asleep.

Kai smiled and then suddenly scooped her up into her arms bridal style.

She laughed.

Sirius walked over to Tuesday and he gently blew on her shoulder, though it would have been worse since his ice powers were back.

"I could try, after all you never know, you might like it." She told him playfully.
________________

"Who else knew?" She asked, gently kissing his neck.

"Feel better now?" Indigo said as she passed him the towel.

"I've come to whisk you away, my fair beauty," Kai declared and though his voice was playful, he was looking at her with a loving expression.

Tuesday flinched awake almost violently at the sudden cold, yelping a high pitched noise in shock.

Faye couldn't help but have to stifle a laugh at Tuesday's reaction.

"I am pretty sure that broken bones are a big turn off for me...however, bruises and a little bit of blood never bothered me," Cain shot back, just as playfully.

"I have told no one. My Reapers will automatically know when something ails me, as it will affect them too. It is a common occurrence to them, however, so they do not know the true extent of this situation. They do not know how close I am to ceasing to exist. No one now, but you."

Jason nodded quietly, accepting the towel and tucking it around his waist, scrubbing a hand absently over his head and through his hair. His hair was getting fairly long, enough to pass his ears and hang in his eyes.

Jess sighed. "Even if we did do what is needed, I wouldn't know what to do, I've never pleasured a man."

"Trust me, I know what is a turn on for you."

Sirius tried to hide his laugh, but he failed. "Our daughter wishes to share some information."

Rachel laughed, before she slid her arms around his neck. "Well then, whisk me away my dashing darling." She told him, her expression was equally as loving.

"Do not think of it that way. Think of it as myself, pleasuring you. And then, when the circumstances are better, you can learn from my reactions. As I am now, we're better suited for me to give you attention, rather than the other way around." Death turned slightly to press a kiss to the corner of her mouth.

"I know you do," Cain laughed. "There are three kids to account for it, not to mention broken furniture over the years."

"You could have woken me up nicely," Tuesday pouted, gathering the quilts and sitting up against the headboard before smiling at Faye and Rosco and asking, "Is everything okay?"

"Y-Yeah, everything is okay, I just..." Faye hesitated, a little nervous and wondering how to phrase it as she squeezed Rosco's hand.

"It would be the greatest honour," Kai declared, kissing her nose and then starting to walk back to the house with her.

"I like your hair like this, looks better than the crop you had when we met."

"Whenever I look in the mirror I remind myself of a golden retriever. Long blond hair." Jason combed his fingers through his hair. "Any longer and I might be able to tie it back. I might even be able to now, actually..."

Indigo chuckled at that. "A retriever isn't so bad. Gorgeous, loyal, playful. Good company..." She smirked.

"They are literally nothing but hair, that's what I sort of look like." Jason tried one more time to push it back from his face and gave up, deciding it would be best to try again when it was drier.

"Well you're more than hair to me."

"I should hope so." Jason hesitated, and then ducked down to kiss her cheek before wandering out of the bathroom to the bedroom, looking a little less haggard and a little less hassled.

Jess kissed him back. "I'm a vampire, but I'm not that selfish as to only accept pleasure for myself without giving you anything in return."

Sirius shrugged at her, though he held a teasing smile.

Rosco gently squeezed her hand.

Scarlet gained a soft pale blush to her cheeks.
______________

Rachel smiled keeping her arms around his neck.
