She flinched shaking her head. "Delos. All aren't bad, they're not. Not Cassie and Connor, Jack..."

"All of them Amanda! All of them! She needs to be safe and she isn't as long as any of them are still about!"
Re: Will You Keep The Secret
Amanda flinched at him yelling at her. "That isn't fair Delm"

"I'm not doing it for him, no. Tell him I'm not; I can keep them off of this land like I've been doing but I can't go and seek them out to hurt them. That isn't right."
Re: Will You Keep The Secret
"I agree. Especially since he wants ALL of them killed. All of them Daff..." She whispered sitting beside him. "I can't let him kill Cass and Con. I just can't."

"Is there a way to convince him to stop this stupid plan? An alternative we can offer?"

"From the little that I know and what I understand whatever is happening has to do with that princess. Delos wants to keep her safe even if that means taking extreme drastic measures."

Re: Will You Keep The Secret
(( I'm reading this play for a lecture tomorrow and my brain finally just clicked what it was about. It's about the cencorship of culture (music, theatre etc.) and this bit:
'Director slowly backs away from Varlet, who looks at the crowd disinterested, then turns back to the theatre audience, and starts to peer at them excited for the first time. Recognition. The speech starts with a whisper and ends up shouting.
Ivan Varlet
Hey – just a minute – citizens! Hundreds of them. Brothers! My own, my very own people! People like me! How did you get in here? So many of you? When were you all unfrozen? Oh, this is marvellous – but why am I kept all alone in the cage when there are so many of you? We could have a party. Come and join me please immediately! All of you! (Yells.) I'm so lonely – It hurts to be alone. So alone!''
Just kind of hit me big time, because even now the government is continuously cutting funds to everything cultural in order to build 'new' things and become more industrial so our history and culture is being left in the past. This play was written in like 1929 but it's still relevant to today and that is kind of scary ))

((( The ending though, ah bless him :/
"Director
Get the children out of here – they shouldn't be hearing this!
Varlet sinks to his knees. Children scream. Crowd panic.
Ivan Varlet
I'm sad, so sad, sad, sad. Life has cheated me … Join me … Why am I suffering like this?
Children scream again.
Ivan Varlet
Touch me. Come closer! (Sobs.)
Two attendants grab Varlet and throw him back in the cage.
Director
Apologies for what you heard, comrades. The bright lights must have caused it to hallucinate. Please remain calm. There's no one out there. The specimen display is concluded now. Band! Let's give the citizens a merry marching song as they disperse to their neat homes.
We see Varlet start to pick out the first tune he played on the guitar, sadly, on his own as the crowd disperses. Fade lights."

Re: Will You Keep The Secret
(( It's set in Russia after the revolution and the war, they're all drunk etc. and then at a wedding there is a fire. One of them gets frozen and in decades (i assume) time they bring him back to life to a race that don't even class themselves as human anymore. They don't know what alcohol is, ciggarettes are or even a guitar and music sound like. He sees a ad in the paper to work at a zoo and he ends up being one of the exhibits because to them all he is another species. Then the bit I copied and pasted to you is when he's being stared at like an animal and they break the 4th wall so he speaks to the audience and ack <3 I haven't read a play that I actually have enjoyed reading in so long, it's so refreshing because it isn't naturalistic or straight forward and can be interpreted in so many ways and could be applied to any time or situation in history. I want to discuss it with one of my class mates so badly but it's ten past two in the morning and everyones asleep and I was planning to sleep after reading it but that isn't going to happen now because I have so much I want to say about it haha ))
Re: Will You Keep The Secret
((Hahaha! That actually does sound rather interesting. I'm usually not the type to read plays I tend to find most long winded and boring.))

Re: Will You Keep The Secret
(( This one was only 9 scenes long and it is a Modernist play instead of a Naturalistic ones which I, personally, find really dull. I'm loving the European Drama module we're studying so much at the minute, the play we read last week was really strange but that one focused on humanity will never be happy with what it has, that we're too self-aware for our own good etc. This one seemed more political. Next week it's Waiting For Goddot we're reading which is genius. Modernist and Absurdist plays focus on the Futility of Human Existence and how the meaning of life is to die (Whether in death comes an afterlife or not is personal view) to put it in the most simplistic terms. Often the time lines aren't linear, there are scene changes and multiple characters all with their own back stories and social classes instead of only focuses on one group or one character.
It was just so refreshing to read a play that I actually found interesting when I've had to read 3 Shakespeare plays in one week. Don't get me wrong, I love Shakespeare, I just find MacBeth really flat. It is one mood throughout and there isn't much change in that. Hamlet is better, but it still isn't a personal favourite. Midsummer Nights Dream I adore though - it's a comedy, but it's amazing.
For one of my assignments we have to do a MacBeth or Hamlet scene and I was having a debate with my group today why we should do Hamlet over MacBeth but I lost because only me and one other wanted to do Hamlet so now we have to do MacDeath (as we are now calling it haha) ))
