Creatures of the Dark

Stephan led him through the house and to where Ana and Hayden stood. "Is she sleeping?"

"I'm okay." She nodded. "Arm went back into place pretty easily." She stopped at seeing Frankie and she stared at him wide eyed, before she stood in front of the door to Alice and the baby.

Ana nodded. "Yes," she stepped beside Hayden blocking the door.

"It's alright, he's still one of us." Stephan told them.

"And if you're wrong?" Hayden asked him.

"Then stake me." Stephan told her.

"I would never hurt Alice or our child, if I did you can all kill me and I won't fight back." He stood calmly looking between the girls.

Hayden looked at him and she walked to him, and this time she slapped him. "Five days she cried over you, five, I know you didn't have a choice but you waited six months." She looked at him, her wolf eyes showing. "You can have a few minutes but if you wake her or the baby, then I will kill you."

Stephan watched Hayden and he watched her move aside so that Frankie could go to the door, it was Frankie and Alice's old room with half of it turned pink for the baby with Alice surprisingly still asleep as the baby tossed and turned to get comfortable.

Frankie took the slap knowing he deserved it and more. "It isn't as easy as you think to get away from up there," he replied quietly moving passed the girls into the room, his eyes finding Alice first and then his daughter.

Stephan watched from the doorway. "Lily, her name is Lily." He whispered to her o that he didn't disturb Alice. Lily was tangled in her blanket, but she was a small thing, and skinny, with a whisp of dark hair like Alice and eyes like Frankie.

He nodded gently reaching out to fix her blanket, brushing his finger against her tiny hand.

At feeling his hand, Lily opened her eyes to look at him and she gurgled cutely, reaching out to him, wanting to be held.

He inhaled a deep breath his eyes softening at the sight of her, glancing to Stephan. "She's awake," he whispered.

Stephan nodded. "She wakes up to touch, it's how she realises who is who." He watched Lily reaching out for her father. "And she likes to be held."

He nodded very carefully lifting the little girl into his arms and cradling her to his chest.

He watched as Lily snuggled into him before he noticed something behind them. "Alice go back to sleep, she's safe." Alice was sat bolt upright in bed, staring at them wide eyed.

Frankie had all his attention on Lily and he was whispering softly to her in the hushed tone and language of the angels.

"She doesn't understand their language." Alice told him. "Please give me back my daughter." It wasn't that she didn't trust Frankie with their baby, she was just too scared to see her baby in the arms of an angel.

He smoothed a hand over Lily's head before passing her to Alice. "She will."

She held her daughter close. "She won't because I can no longer speak it." She whispered and she kissed her daughter's head as her fear turned to tears. "Why are you here?"

"To see you both. I said I would come back."

"With your wife in tow." She told him, she was still sensitive to what was around her and she kept the baby close.

"I had no choice. It's the only way I would be able to see you."

She looked at him. "And the worst part is that I still love you." She whispered.

"I love you too, Alice. I've never stopped."

"But your married." She told him. "It wouldn't work now, you're not even supposed to be here."

"I know I'm not but I had to see you..."

"Why?" She asked. "Frankie, why are you here?"
