Delaney stared at him for a moment. "You're saying he-.. " she frowned. "Why would she do that?"

James let out a breath moving forward into the light once again, kneeling down on the ground so he was more at eye level with Ariel. "Hello."

"Your the man from the baby photos..." Ariel whispered.

"Because she is stupid, and he is stupid for letting her do it - he could of fought it." Wren mumbled. "What am I going to do? I could find him a body to jump in to but that means... finding a body, y'know?"

"I am," he hummed. "My name is James."

"Maybe he missed her as much as she missed him. When you love someone... you don't always think about what comes next. You focus on the moment." she whispered. "I-... I might know someone that could help... and well if he can't he might be able to point us to someone who can."

"Who?"

"Your my dad?"

Persephone smiled.

"A family member of mine. Cain. He knows more about things then I could ever comprehend and when he doesn't know something he can usually point me in the direction of someone who can," she smiled softly. "And on the chance that he can't help us... at least we tried?"

James smiled brightly. "That's right. I am."

"I'm going to do more than try, I am going to succeed. I would just not have to do it the way I think I will."

"Cool," She grinned. "Are you here now, forever?"

Delaney raised an eyebrow at him. "What would you have to do, Wren?"

James sighed quietly. "I don't think so... it doesn't work that way where I came from..."

"But your here now, can't you just not go back?" Ariel frowned.

"Get him a body," Wren answered with a small shrug.

"Let's go speak to some people, hm?"

"I wish it were that easy..."

Wren nodded.

Ariel just frowned at him.

"Come on," she whispered, leading the way towards Cain and Serena's home. "Umm, I should probably let you know now that they're both vampires..."

"I'm here now though, hm? And I'll stay for as long as I can."

"Ok, ok I can cope with vampires."

Ariel nodded, walking closer until she built up thr courage to throw herself into his arms.

She smiled softly. "Okay, good."

James caught her in his arms, hugging her tightly to his chest.

Persephone watched them with a warm smile.

"I get sad sometimes watching other people who have a dad and a mama," Ariel whispered to James.

Wren was quiet then.

James sat down on the ground, lifting her onto his lap so he could hold her. "I'm sorry you have to feel that way. I never wanted to leave you or your mama."

Laney led the way to Cain's house, knocking on the door.

"Then why did you? What happened?"

Persephone grimaced at that, sitting herself down cross legged beside them.

James looked to Persephone. "You don't know?"

She shook her head, "They declared it a cold case last year," she whispered

He frowned. "How? How did it go cold... that makes no sense."

"Ariel, go outside and find a shell for your dad." Persephone encouraged, watching her wander out of the cave before walking to James and resting her palm on his cheek. "What happened?"

He watched Ariel go outside. "It wasn't an accident, Persephone. I don't know what they told you or what was found but it was intentional."

"What happened?" She pushed gently, brushing her fingers against his cheek delicately.

"Work meeting gone bad. Very very bad. You remember my partner? Chris, he came over for dinner and we went out with him and his wife a few times?"
