"Come on, where's that laugh.." she poked at him.

He laughed softly

"Ah, there it is!"

He smiled

"Let's go check on the others."

He nodded

Ana got to her feet, holding out her hand for him to take.

He took her hand gently

"Did you - I - Did you agree to it? Or... she didn't force you did- did she?"

"Of course you aren't tired, mi amor." Diego hummed in a sing song voice, the words lilting to hum a Spanish melody to help soothe her.

She tugged him to his feet.

Sophia mumbled softly completely incoherent as she was already falling asleep in his arms.

“Some of it was consensual.” He told her. “Not to become this.”

He moved at the tug.

Alessia frowned, studying his face before cautiously reaching her hand out to take a hold of his. "I- I'm sorry. If I ever would have known she was doing things like that I would have... I hope whatever it was didn't... didn't hurt."

Diego swayed slightly to rock her.

“To become a vampire you have to die…of course it hurt.” He told her. “But it was nothing compared to after.”

"What - If you can't or... don't want to say then..." Alessia stumbled over her words, though kept her fingers in a tight hold around his hand. "How did she do it? What did she do to you afterwards?"

She slept peacefully in his arms.

Ana headed upstairs to find some of the others.

Diego stayed wide awake, closely monitoring the door and window for any noises.

"Your mother, watched me kill her assistant and then she brought in my wife," He told her. "It was an experiment, to see if even as a monster I could recognise those I loved...I recognised her as my wife but the need to kill...It was stronger than any other emotion." He let go of her hand moving away. "My wife was pregnant with our first child when I killed her."

Alice was in the nursery reading a story to the children.

"I- I'm sorry."

"Yeah it's not your fault."

Ana stood quietly in the doorway not wanting to disturb them.

Other than the fact that she was clinging to him in her sleep, she was finally getting the rest that she needed.

"Hey." Alice smiled as she finished the chapter.

"But it's hers and I- she's my mither so..." Alessia swallowed thickly.

“Well judging by your reaction you knew nothing about it .” He told her. “So you have nothing to be sorry for.”

"I do! I do thats horrific."

“It’s got nothing to do with you.” He told her.
