"What about them? I have not seen them both in years" he told her seriously making at face at her frown.

"Well what... Oh never mind." She sighed.

"Go on and ask, this might be your one chance that I will even answer let alone honestly."

"What happened to them? What memories do you have linked to that tune you were humming?"

Vander ran his hand through his hair making it fall messily around his forehead and into his eyes taking a few moments to collect his thoughts. "I really am not sure. We woke one morning to them being gone. We waited for awhile...almost a week but they did not return. The tune is made up, for my sister to keep her from crying when we were small."

"And where is your sister now?" She asked quietly, frowning when he covered his eyes and leaning forward to hesitantly move his hair out of his face so she could meet his gaze.

"Just like my parents I do not know. I have not seen her since she was six." He muttered quietly shaking his head so the hair would fall in his face once more.

"Stop doing that, you have lovely eyes, I wish to see them." She whispered light heartedly with a laugh, lifting her hand up to move his hair from his eyes once again. "See, I think there is more to it than that, your voice changed when I asked you about it."

He wrinkled his nose but he let her move his hair not commenting on what she'd said about his eyes. "I left her. Left her on the doorstep to a family we did not know in hopes they would care for. She cried for hours when I told her what I was going to do but I did it anyway. I promised her I would return and I never did..."

"Why did you leave, sweetheart?"

Her calling him "sweetheart" caught him so off guard that he stared at her blankly for some time. "I- well uh... I could not care for her. I could not even care for myself. I was just a child..."

She just gave a small nod of understanding in response to that, "That was very noble of you," she whispered, "Very brave, and you were all alone from then on?"

"It was not. She probably does not even remember me" he mumbled quietly nodding his head to her question.

"It was, brave of you to say goodbye to the only familiar person you had at the time for their benefit when you did not know what would happen to you afterwards. Whether she remembers you or not it was brave, sweetheart," She whispered, resting her hand on his cheek gently.

"Why do you call me that?" He asked quietly shifting his eyes to look at her hand rather then her face.

She shrugged a bit, "Because you need to be a sweetheart to do something like that,"

"I was a child. A child unable to care for another child no matter how much he wanted to."

"That doesn't change the fact that it was a brave, sweet thing to do." Amalia whispered softly, "I don't think I would of been able to do something like that."

Vander shook his head lowering his eyes to his lap. "Let's talk about something else now..."

"Do you want to ask me anything?" She asked quietly, leaning back into the chair silently.

He simply shrugged his shoulders slumping back in his chair. "You can tell me whatever you like."

Amalia shook her head and muttering, "Then I aint saying anything. I'm not that open, you at least have to ask in order to find out."

"Uh what about your family then? Do you have siblings?"

"Yeah, an older brother, two, actually. They've died though."

"In the wars?" He asked quietly laying his head back and covering his mouth as he yawned.
