Creatures of the Dark

Frankie sighed. "Yeah. Would you rather we check it out now?"

"I don't know...." She sighed.

"What would you like to do then?"

"Still can't decide on anything?" A voice asked and Alice's eyes went wide as she realised who it was and she froze as she turned around and found her brother Mathew behind her. "Typical Alice really."

"Mathew....what are you doing here?" Alice asked.

Frankie knew the voice as well and didn't need to turn around to see whom it was. A deep frown on his face.

"I came to see my little sister." Mathew shrugged. "Come and give me a hug 'sis'." He told her and his voice hardened when he called her sis, making Alice tense.

Alice simply stayed next to Frankie, tense and too scared to move.

He shifted closer to her letting her know she was safe.

Alice looked between the pair of them before her eyes settled on her brother. "You're no brother to me."

It not being his place to say anything right now he kept silent but he was keeping a close eye on them both.

"You're not still upset with being sent here are you?" Mathew laughed. "You should be happy, you got to spend time with your big all time crush." He gestured to Frankie. "But as always, you're ungrateful."

"You sent me away from my home." Alice told him. "I lost whatever life I had and had to start from scratch. I was training to become an Elder."

"And look who got the job instead." He told her, gently flexing his wings. "You were never cut out to be an Elder Alice, you were too weird, that's why you had no friends."

Frankie brushed his fingers against hers beneath the water. "Why can't you just leave her be Mathew? You do your thing and let her do hers."

"Because as her eldest brother, it is my job to keep tabs on her, and she still has something that I need."

He eyed him. "And what would that be?"

Alice looked at him. "I don't have the book."

"What book?"

"It's an old book, passed down to the girls in our family, to prepare us to become Elders." Alice explained.

"And he would want that, why?"

"It holds the most powerful spells of the Elders." Alice told him. "But like I said, I don't have it, I wasn't allowed to bring any possessions down here with me, so it's up there, somewhere."

Frankie nodded in understanding.

"Actually it's not." Mathew told her. "Just tell me where it is Alice." It was easy to tell that Mathew was starting to get annoyed with her.

"If she says she doesn't have it then she doesn't have it."

"Stay out of this Frankie." Mathew told him with a roll of his eyes.

"Nah, I'd really rather not."

"This doesn't even concern you." Mathew told him. "It's between me and Alice, so back off like a good little boy."

Frankie rolled his eyes. "And she's already told you more then once that she doesn't have what you want."
