A year had gone by since the Sinner was docked in the harbour and it had been a year since Killian had seen Maria. During this year, he had certainly changed, becoming more like a real pirate (think of Killian from Once Upon a Time), he had also lost a hand in that year and he had gained a hook instead, though he was still skilled with a blade. They had picked up a new crew, including a pirate girl who seemed very attached to Killian, as she loomed around his form as he got off of the ship in the harbour. However, Amora remained on the boat this time, she had an entire new crew and they had only stopped off for a day to replenish their supplies, she didn't approve of this new female on board and had become quite territorial in recent weeks, threatening to dismember her herself countless times, but in truth she was frustrated. It had been a year since they had been here and in that year, nothing had changed in hers and Luke's relationship, except for stolen glances, gentle touches and small signs of affection, it was maddening even to her.

Luke was sat down in the kitchen, more or less unchanged despite a few extra scars from fights. He was narrowing his eyes in concentration as he used one of the new knives he had brought to cut a red onion; seeing how small he could cut the pieces with the taste still being obvious; rationing techniques.

Maria had become a shadow of herself, the aura of fight she had about her diminished into jumpy nerves. In the past year she had managed to find herself a job and a home, and then a few months later lost both and was unable to get back up on her feet again. She resided beneath one of the piers where the ships docked in order to stay out of the bad weather, her hair had grown long and matted. Cuts and bruises all over her from the standard of living she'd become accustomed to.

The girl that Killian had brought with him was pulling him along the piers, having never been to this harbour before and she seemed more of the pushy and snarly type, the complete opposite to who Killian had his heart on. In truth, he was looking for Maria, he had missed her that year and he needed to know that she was alive at least.

"Oh come on Killian, pay attention." The girl almost shouted at him as she held up two dresses, obviously both were much too revealing, but that was most likely her plan. "Which one?" She asked.

Killian looked at her. "Sweetheart, you have enough dresses." He told her. "Come on, you heard Amora, we need to buy food."

Amora ended up walking down to the kitchens, her boots announcing her entrance before she did with her mouth and she watched him from the doorway, her eyes surveying him, her thoughts going wild, but her mouth was silent.

Maria was walking along the harbour side, back towards the piers; arms wrapped around herself as she ignored heckles from passers-by, wincing when a man whom walked past pushed her down to the ground with the mutter of her being dirty before he had kept walking.

Luke picked up a small piece of red onion, offering it to her on his palm when he caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye. "Have that? Let me know if it actually tastes of onion or not?"

Amora took it from him and she put it in her mouth and she chewed it for a few seconds before she nodded. "It does when you chew it." She told him. "But no worries, the men are going to come back with all the food on your list." She told him. "They are under pain of death if they don't."

Killian saw what happened up ahead and he rushed forward despite the girl calling for him to come back and he walked over to the man. "Hey, pick on someone your own size." He snarled to him, almost daring him to pick a fight with him before he looked back at the girl, not fully recognising her yet. "Are you alright?"

"We need to get better at rationing it, only when there is three quarters spare at the end of meals can we start to relax on portions and the amount we use." Luke whispered, "The flavour when it gets chewed is good enough, encourages them to chew instead of gulfing it like seagulls. The longer someone takes to eat, the quicker they fill up."

Maria coughed violently as she slowly moved to sit up.

She nodded. "We will need to have a talk with the crew before we set off." She told him. "Hopefully they bring back enough food."

"Hey, are you alright?" Killian asked again, moving some hair from her face with his only hand.

Maria inhaled sharply at the touch, almost flinching away before her mind caught up and she realised who it was. Hesitantly lifting her gaze up to meet his, hand also going up to rest against his cheek.

"Mm, hopefully. It's the best crew we've had in a while, minus Kilain's... whatever she is.. the others seem reliable."

"Maria?" Killian asked, taking in her appearance. "What happened?"

"Don't even mention her in my presence." She told him. "You know, I found her in my quarters the other day, making herself at home." Amora seethed.

Maria just swallowed thickly, moving her hand down from his cheek, shoulder and arm. Pausing when she got to the hook, sliding her hand up his sleeve to rest against the skin of his arm, her other arm going around his neck so she could hug him tightly, burying her face against his shoulder.

"Making herself at home? What was she doing?"

He held her close, being careful with the arm with the hook as he slid his arms around her, pulling her to him. "I'm so sorry I left you." He told her, pulling away slightly and gently patting her hair down. "What happened?"

"Well she was in my bed for a start." Amora fumed. "And you wondered why I threw my bedding into the ocean?" She asked him, she had started to pace in frustration.

Maria shook her head in the negative, moving her hand to trace the vertical scar down her neck where someone had attacked her; damaging her vocal chords so she could no longer talk.

"Ah," Luke hummed in understanding, though had an amused smirk.

"Don't you dare laugh or I will hit you with a stool like I did to Killian and everyone else." She warned him, half in a playful tone and the other half serious.

Killian looked at her and he sighed. "Come with me." He told her. "Come back to the ocean with me, live on the ship again."

Luke burst out laughing then, "I'm sorry, is that suppose to be scary?"

Maria initially turned her head away from him as she hesitated, though when a by passer threw an empty drink container at her she flinched and hid her face against his shoulder once again. Trembling as she gripped onto him tightly, terrified.

She raised an eyebrow, looking from him to the stool then back to him. "Hey, I have to be scary, I'm the captain." She told him.

Killian growled at the person who threw the cup and he put his hand on his sword as his hook stayed around her. "Come on, let's go."

"But you aren't scary, not to me." He laughed.

Maria slowly got to her feet.

"Oh really?" She asked him, walking over to him, each step slow and calculated, even her walk seemed threatening to others, and her hands moved on her waist.

He got to his feet and he put his sword back, holding out a hand to her.

Maria wrapped her hands around his arm, walking close to his side.

"Mm, really," He hummed, biting his lip as he watched her.

She suddenly had a dagger out, the tip just gently pressed against his chest, not enough force to cause any type of injury or pain. "How about now?" She asked.

He brought her back to the girl who was waiting impatiently, and before she could say anything, he gave her a hard look. "Just don't."

Maria tensed slightly when she saw the girl, looking between them both with a deep frown. Letting go of Killian's arm and making there be some distance between them, not wanting to cause a fight.

"Mm, no." He hummed, leaning forward and pressing a deep kiss to her lips.
