"Have you at least spoken to your mum?" He asked. "You've only really spoken to your dad."

"Why not?"

"Your mum will."

"Just keep trying." He advised. "Believe me, I was just like you at your age."

"No, I wanted to go to sea." He told him. "When I was your age, I lived on land with my Aunt and my sister, but I yearned to be out at see with my dad." He told him. "I ran away to sea one night when everyone was asleep, I hopped on a boat and sailed away, it wa the biggest mistake of my life."

"This was before I became a captain." He told her. "I came to see at 11 years old, I was cabin boy to my father, but that one year made all the difference." He told him. "Believe me, I still yearned for the sea, but maybe just having one more year at sea with us, will help you to be on land."

"Not as much as you think," He told him. "Believe me when I say this, if you can manage the sea, nothing on land will be as dangerous, you've not faced the dangerous sea yet, but you will this year." He told him. "And once you've done that, your parents have no choice but to let you choose where you want to be."

"No, but sirens can be unpredictable, they aren't like your mother." He told him. "And because this year you become a man." He reminded him.

"From 11 the crew will see you as a man." He told him. "You will be able to work hard on the ship, doing things the men on this ship. Do."

"Come on let's go and see your mum."

"She'll come to you." He warned. "Come on, you need to get some food anyway."

"You know you really are an ungrateful child, you don't want to see your family because you haven't got your own way then fine." He told him. "I'm not going to stand and wait for you to see it." He got up and left him to it.

"It will when you're. Left alone for the rest of your life." He warned and then he was gone.
