"She was a lovely lady, filled in a big part of the hole my mom left. It was nice to have that kind of bond." Marlowe hummed, quiet for a few minutes before adding happily; "It's nice seeing Caliban so happy these days too, I knew he would get to this point. Some people are too good to not get their happy ending."

"He's fine, mom." Asher assured. "I didn't even hit him that hard."

"I don't like the idea of it."

“She’s growing up Lou…”

“He’s had his struggles, definitely.”

“No but the ground is concrete.” Celeste murmured then, anger quickly leaving her face as she shook Archer a little more roughly.

"He is the sweetest out of all of you," Marlowe chuckled, taking the bowl of cheese as it was placed down with the food and sprinkling it over her food.

"He is fine mom." Asher repeated, though more to convince himself this time.

"It's too soon. She's not even been out of that place one night, they need to slow it down."

Tesni as silently as she could stepped into the spare room her and Tobias were staying in, pushing the door closed and looking around.

“I’m sure he i-“ Celeste moved Archer then, cutting off when moving his head smeared blood down the couch. “Shit, help me get him to the car. Hospital, now!”

“Mm. Sweet. Altair rolled his eyes playfully, digging into his food.

“Okay, okay. I told her we’d discuss it and we have so we’ll roll with it like that. I just think allowing her some leniency is more likely to make her happy and more amicable with us. We’ve still got the Cain issue to deal with too.”

Tobias was laying on his side of the bed, staring out the windows in the dark.

Tesni kicked her shoes off and laid down on her side beside him, slipping an arm around his waist and pulling him against her gently. "Hey,"

"And the Tesni issue, she was clinging onto Tobias like a mouse all night. The only one relatively stable at the moment is Logan, but how long that is going to last for I don't know."

"You go to the car. I'll carry him." Asher frowned, lifting his brother up.

“Can we take time off from being parents?” Karsi laughed softly.

Celeste swallowed thickly and headed out.

“Shit happens when you’re fighting…” Astrid frowned. “Don’t blame yourself for this. He’ll be fine, it’ll be a concussion…”

“Hey.” Tobias greeted, leaning back into her.

"I wish we could, especially right now." Louis laughed quietly. "I never thought we would have this many kids all have problems at the same time."

"Dad is going to kill me." Asher whispered to Astrid before following his mother out and putting Archer into the back of the car.

"You're meant to be sleeping," She pointed out gently

"You though," Marlowe hummed between bites of her food. "There aren't any words to describe you."

“Dad shot his sister and made his brother look like he’d been mauled in an animal attack, don’t sweat it.” Astrid brushed off light heartedly, trying not to panic as she followed them out and got in the car, looking over her shoulder as her mother set off.

“I’m sure many can think of… well, many.” Altair chuckled.

“Remind me again why we wanted kids cause we’ve had no peace nor sleep in over twenty years.” Karsi laughed.

“I was, in and out…”

"You like to focus on the bad words people have used to describe you, don't you?" Marlowe mused sadly.

"Do you want to talk about anything?" She asked gently, moving her hand up to brush her fingers through his hair - taking a few minutes to play with the ends.

Asher swallowed thickly, leaning his head against the window and staring out. Trying to avoid looking at his brother.

"I don't think I can remember. We must of been brainwashed."

“Like… we did it on purpose… psychopaths.” Karsi grinned, kissing his cheek.

“I’m okay, do you?”

“I could’ve really done without this tonight. Thanks kids. You’re all fucking super.” Celeste muttered.

“I’m not sentimental about the good ones.” Altair shrugged. “I do what’s necessary, I do what I like, it doesn’t make me popular. I’m eating dinner with my brothers ex wife. I can see why people aren’t fond of me.”

"Your brother who slapped his ex wife around the face, left her sobbing in an office and kept kissing her and yet telling her they were completely through." Marlowe answered with a relaxed shrug. "The only person who has the right to be hurt by any of this situation is Ben. Everyone else can go to hell."

"Mmm, because your the only one going through shit?" Asher hissed. "Don't be a bitch, mom."

"I - just want to give you another little reminder that there are people you can talk to, when your ready." Tesni whispered.

"Pyschopaths we always have been. It's a survival technique."

“You’ve come a long way from the girl who tried to please everyone.”

“I know Tes, I know. Thank you.”

"Your sister, our aunt. It effects us too." Asher hissed at her.

"It doesn't work, or.. it does and what I do isn't ever quite appreciated so it isn't worth the energy anymore." Marlowe hummed, smiling at him then. "Maddox and I were just kids when we met, I was just a kid when I met all of you. Growth is normal."

"You'll make yourself ill soon, not being able to sleep."

"Lets make sure my father never hears you say he is sane." Louis chuckled.

“You’ve not been thinking of your aunt whilst you’re been playing matchmaker.”

“Can we not.” Astrid sighed as they pulled up outside the hospital. “I’ll keep trying to get in touch with dad, you two take him in.”

“Your dad being nice to me and not sniping at everything I say has thrown me for a loop I will admit. Too busy answering Logan’s incessant questions about the fish and ducks in the lake when he did rowing.” Karsi snickered.

“You’ve grown, he’s regressed clearly.”

"He just... went on self-destruct and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't pull him our of it." Marlowe whispered sadly then. "That is always going to hurt."

"No, we were thinking about how you might actually fucking need him. How he might need you since he nearly fucking died too." Asher hissed, getting out of the car and pulling Archer out.

"He doesn't know what to do with Logan now Logan is comfortable enough to actually speak to people." Louis laughed.

“And doesn’t stop…” Karsi grinned. “But I’ll give it to the little guy, he’s responsible with those animals he brings home. I was expecting him to bring the fosters home and then just make the staff clean up after them but they say he always insists on doing as much as he can. He’s sweet.”

“I’m okay, worry about me a little less Tes? You’re supposed to be excited mm? Did you book our honeymoon?”

“Just know it was never your fault.”

Celeste sighed deeply, watching him go before following.

((BRB, been procrastinating vaccing the house all day now and with a husky and it being shedding season it’s just getting worse by the second 😂))

"The Maddox I married died," She whispered, swallowing thickly then. "He stopped being the guy who woke me up excited because he spotted a sunrise he particularly enjoyed, or who would rest his head on my lap and tell me what was actually bothering him. He stopped saying he was in love with me. Those things are what makes this... feeling for you or anyone else scary.. because people fall out of love and I genuinely never thought that would happen. He did, he always thought it was a possibility and that should of been a big enough of a red flag to make me run."

"Yeah. Yeah I booked it... was weird booking it by myself but, I done it."

Louis nodded in agreement.

(( That's okay 😂 ))

“Elle wants you to take her to see the ducks tomorrow, she asked as I was putting her to bed. I said I’ll ask.”

“Knocks your feet from under you doesnt it? Hearing someone say they just don’t love you anymore.”

“When do we fly?”

"Next week," Tesni whispered, "I just need to organise childcare tomorrow, everyone is tired though so thought I best leave it for now."

Marlowe nodded subtly, reaching across the table for his hand - seeking quiet comfort.

"I can do that, I'll take her and Ezra."

“Wonder if your sister will get us another camera for the memories.”

Altair squeezed her hand gently. “You’re doing great.”

Karsi nodded with a smile. “You’re a great grandpa… I think Elle adores you more than her parents:”

"I think she adores anyone who takes her to feed the ducks." Louis laughed. "Tesni done well creating a core memory in that girl, hm?"

"Thank you. So are you, Al. So great."

“Shall we have dessert up in the room?” Altair hummed as they finished and their food was taken away.

“It’s a nice core memory to have… except ducks are very disgustingly messy and it’s hard to explain that every time she begs for a ducky.” Karsi laughed.

Tobias rolled over so he was facing her, bringing her into his arms then.

A few hours later Archer was sat up in bed after having argued with the nurse that he wanted to be let go but having been refused. His head was shaved, and four inch long gash at the back had been glued and stapled together, his facial expression stormy with petulance at having to have it done. The broken nose - having been set now - having caused both eyes to go black. The nurse had informed those in the waiting room that Archer would be okay as scans showed no lasting damage, though they wanted to keep him in for observation due to the concussion.

Marlowe nodded, "Dessert and another drink in the room, yes. I can slip out of this dress then." she grinned.

"I'm sure we could build her a pond at some point that we can throw a few ducks on, once she is old enough to clean it out of course." Louis chuckled.

Tesni touched her forehead to his.

"Well you look like you've been hit by a literal bus. What the fuck, Arch. I've seen the other guy too, before you start that cocky stuff - your ass was kicked, I'm disappointed." Scarlett tutted as she walked into the room and approached his bedside.

"See, he is fine." Asher hissed towards his mother. "Are you going to stop being a bitch now?"
