"Alright then, what made you want to become a prison officer?" She asked.

He smiled slightly.

"The military became unmanageable with looking after the kid, this was the only stable job where my skills felt somewhat relevant."

"Aww, you've got a kid, that's cute." She told him with a smile. "Did you serve?"

"Mm, he's three. Yeah, I got posted once or twice..."

"Wow, I regret not finishing my training." She told him. "So what is your son like?"

"Quiet now, his mom died a year ago and it's... changed him. It's why I had to step out, I'm like sole parent now."

She nodded in understanding. "That must be rough....You know if you need any help or a babysitter or anything, you can let me know, I'd be more than happy to help out if you need anything."

"It's not too bad. I'm still close to her family, there is my own too. He has lots of people who adore him."

She smiled slightly. "Sounds like a very lucky little guy, especially if he has a dad like you."

"Ah, I try." He chuckled with a warm smile.

She smiled. "So, when is everyone else supposed to get here?" She asked.

"Any minute now.. they cancel a lot though so.. we'll see."

She nodded. "And even if they cancel, I'm sure we will have a lot of fun and a lot of drink." She told him with a laugh. "So, tell me more, what do you like to do outside of work?"

He grimaced and shrugged. "I uh... I'm not into games of twenty questions."

"You did say that you wouldn't tell me anything unless I asked." She reminded him as she sipped her drink.

"I wouldn't ramble on, twenty questions just feels like an interrogation though."

“Okay, so what would you like to do instead?”

"Drink."

She nodded. “Okay then.”

He was quiet then, fingertips tapping against the glass.

She sipped her drink.
