"It is almost like you can see the future," Magnus mused from the doorway of the guest quarters, peering down the hall where he watched Karina slip out of Lucian's room the next morning and sneak back in the direction of her own. His voice went quieter, tone changing to distaste as he added; "I didn't think she would go as far as staying the whole night with him. Emmett hasn't even had a funeral yet."

Aodhan sat in the breakfast hall, intrinsically studying the patterns carved into the oak table in front of him as staff filtered through from the kitchen and placed luxurious bowls of fruit, oats and nuts down closest to the other side of the table where Kael was sat. Only lifting up his gaze when he heard his son clear his throat; "I know this is more lavish than normal, your mother missed you though. She wanted to treat you. Isn't that right?"

"That isn't what we were talking about." Kael laughed quietly, shifting his weight on his seat so he could reach over and take a deep purple fruit from one of the ornate bowls. "I asked you a question, about the creatures that seem to be... everywhere, currently. Across the continent, I mean."

"You did? Apologies." Aodhan wrinkled his nose. "Your mother informed me this morning, I have instructed Hawk to send his cohort searching for anything in the immediate area."

"Captain." Orna greeted when it was her turn to step forward, having joined the formation a few minutes later than she was scheduled as stealthily as she could - pieces of straw protruding from her braid. Shoulders tense.

“She stayed the night? That bastard will have - “ Thea made an almost growling noise of frustration. “How dare he take advantage of her in her vulnerable state. Drunk, grieving? What a fucking monster.” She seethed as she crosses the room to join him, peering out of the door. “I’d have him executed for it if it was my realm. Even Conan can’t be okay with that!”

“You seem… stressed, Orna, what is it?” Wyatt asked, noticing her demeanour.

“Morning, gentlemen.” Isolde greeted as she headed into the room, turning back briefly to hand the parchment in her hand to an aide behind her before going toward the table. Stopping behind Kael to duck and kiss the top of his head, ruffling his hair after.

"S- stressed, Sir? Absolutely not. No, not even the reminsence of stress here." Orna answered, too quick and disjointed for it to be true. Though she offered a clumsy half smile. "I am ready for the day."

"We'll make our opinions clear to Conan as soon as we see him. Maybe this is... not as first appears." Magnus wrinkled his nose. "I haven't worked that man out yet. I'm undecided."

"Your Majesty." Aodhän greeted stoicly, pushing himself to his feet and bowing his head slightly.

"Stop it." Kael frowned at his father, playfully batting Isolde's affections away. "You are being dramatic, sit back down. Tell him to sit."

“Yea stressed, don’t play stupid.” Wyatt crossed his arms.

“So this is how it’s going to be then?” Isolde sighed deeply, waving him off. “I’ve lost my appetite, I’ll leave you two to enjoy your breakfast, since I had time with you yesterday.” She squeezed Kael’s shoulder before turning and heading out of the room once again.

“He’s a slimy, arrogant squid.”

"I spent the evening with a.... New friend. The night go away from me, I overslept." Orna grimaced, lifting her hand up to anxiously take a hold of her own hair. Eyes widening in surprise as she found the Hay to pull out, "Oh."

"Stop!" Kael called after her, a short, determined command. Pushing himself to his feet and walking at pace after her, repeating in a more desperate tone. "Stop... come back. Please? Just ignore him."

"Those are my impressions too, but we have both been surprised before."

Wyatt rolled his hair, snorting a little. “Relax, Orna. It’s fine. You were barely thirty seconds late.”

“Your father is clearly determined to make things awkward between us. I see no need to sit and suffer through it again when I can simply leave the room. I’ll spend the morning with Síofra again; and I’ll see you this afternoon.”

“Her husband isn’t even in the ground and he’s already getting her drunk and into bed. I don’t need anything else on him to make my mind up.”

"Please.... for me." Kael pleaded quietly. "Lets just pretend that things are normal. I'll talk to hin too, make him behave."

"It's a conversation to have with - ah, she is back quick." Magnus mused, slipping back into the guest room before Karina could see them.

Karina having done little different to her appearance then yesterday, though her hair was now damp and loose - the black dress clean, though a replica of yesterdays. "How were the twins?"

“Things aren’t normal Kael. Your father is clearly determined for them not to be. What use is making us all sit through an awkward breakfast? I feel like today of all days should free me from having to plaster in false smiles.”

“They were good, good… I think Eden enjoyed being the big cousin for once with Zaria, compared to the little one with Dagmar’s children.” Thea assured. “Elodie just came to take them for breakfast. She insisted on the routine, said they would do better not to break from it with everything going on.”

“We need to talk Con. Well - I need to talk, you need to listen. And actually listen. You need to listen and then think hard before you dismiss what I have to say.” Lucian said bluntly as he entered the Kings Quarters after a single knock on the door, wasting no time with pleasantries.

“Good morning to you too, we slept well, thank you.” Dagmar raised an eyebrow from where she was sat in front of the fireplace, putting the book down that she was reading as she took interest.
