Gavin: Be careful he called over his shoulder as he walked away

"You to." She and Lucy walked the opposite way, away from town and she brought Lucy to an abandoned cottage.

Gavin: was silent as he headed back towards his home to prepare for his shift of work

"Don't worry, we will fix it up and make it pretty." She told her as she brought her inside and lay her on a dusty old mattress, putting her jacket over her.

Gavin: at home he cleaned up and changed

She watched Lucy as she tried to sleep.

he next Morning

Esmerelda and Lucy were stood in a crowd of people who were watching the executions of the gypsies that had been caught and they were both wearing hoods. Lucy had buried her face in Esmerelda's shoulder so she didn't have to watch and she only looked when her parents had been led onto the platform, but Esmerelda had been watching them all and she watched Lucy's parents be executed her mother screaming for mercy whilst her father stayed silent.

Gavin: had done everything in his power to try to post-pone the deaths even making up things. As it was it didn't work. What had happened was he had been let off duty early so he wouldn't be there...he went home and changed his clothes returning with a hood on as well to stand beside Esmerelda and Lucy

Lucy had started crying as she watched her mother wither on the floor of the platform in painn and her father get his head torn off. Esmerelda buried her face in her shoulder. "Come on Lucy, don't watch anymore." Her free hand took Gavin's.

Gavin: Let me take her he whispered quietly reaching for Lucy as he held Esmerelda's hand

Esmerelda handed Lucy to him and she watched Lucy snuggle into his shoulder, sobbing.

Gavin: cradled her close like a parent rubbing her back

Esmerelda rested her head on his shoulder.

Gavin: kissed the side of her head

She smiled softly at him.

Gavin: smiled back

As the execution drew to a close, Esmerelda stayed with Gavin and Lucy.
