She just laughed a little bit at that, whispering affectionately, "I'm yours, all yours," as she deepened the kiss.

"Of course you are, you affectionate idiot," Theon muttered fondly.

Nevia slowly pulled away then, just pressing her forehead to his shoulder and chuckling, "Luci called you niave. I thought I was the naive one in this relationship but he said your just as naive as me. I told him you were just a sweetie."

Atticus just smiled.

"If a man who has lived while the human species was still dragging itself out of the ocean tells you something, it's normally good credit to listen to him. He knows me better than I know myself, like a smith knows the work on which he has forged better than the man who wields it."

"T-Though..." Anastasia began quietly. "Enough about me. How are you? W-With your family..."

"Mm," She hummed softly in response to that, glancing up to study his face quietly. Just smiling fondly.

"A mess, why?" Atticus snorted with a roll of his eyes. "I've cleared out Nevia's alcohol.... Ops."

"Goodness, you've turned sappy all of a sudden," Theon muttered. "Now stop that. Honestly. It's sickening. I'm getting tooth rot just looking at you and listening to you while you have that dopey smile. No more recreational highs for you."

"I've never had family to lose, so I can't understand. But the bone deep emptiness and the echoing wrong never quiet goes away, because there's a hole there that can't be filled now. I just wanted to offer my help and support in anyway I could."

Nevia just laughed a little bit at that.

Atticus just nodded a little bit at that, muttering, "Nevia's ran off to her sickening little creatures, think she'd want to spend time with me since we're all we have left now"

"Go and have your donuts. I'll use these brownies to fuck up people's lives."

"It could be why she's with it. They're cold and clinical and she might not want a reminder of her parents by seeing your face."

"Grabbing a few more souls, hm? Or just getting them high and addicted to drugs?" Nevia asked with a quiet laugh. "What was that book you were reading earlier, anyway? It was disgusting to touch."

"Mm," Atticus mumbled, just letting out a deep sigh.

"No, and no. If certain people go to work high, they can lose their jobs and get arrested and watching them suffer is funny."

Anastasia fell silent herself, since she wasn't very good at saying comforting things.

"I was close," Nevia whispered with a small shrug, moving away from him then to grab the bag of donuts and taking a few bites of one. "Mm, these are so good,"

"Can you walk with me to the shop? Need to buy more alcohol..."

"I just go for high profile targets to see if they attempt offing themselves. The forties was a great place to be when Wall Street went crashing."

"I don't think so. You smell like a nightclub and your mouth tastes like death.yku can either sober up or sleep, your choice. And we both know in the terms of physical strength, I've got the training to force you."

Nevia wrinkled her nose as she took a bite of her donut. "Mm... I imagine it was all very entertaining for you. The depression and suicide and people losing their families and parents. Bet your loving the fact mine are dead, huh?"

"And I have the magic to stop you from forcing me!" He snapped, narrowing his eyes. "I'm having more alcohol."

"I only like death when I have something to gain from it. Regarding your parents, I'm neutral. I didn't hate them, I didn't lose an enemy, gain a soul. I don't care that they're dead."

"I'm a hunter Atticus. I'm the youngest ever to go under a Reckoning, which means offensive magic does nothing to me. So here, I have the advantage." Anastasia had twitched, face briefly twisting in fear at the word 'Reckoning' but other than that, seemed smug she could keep him away from drinking.

Atticus rolled his eyes, muttering; "I'm going to the shop." before storming out of the house and heading down the street. Stumbling every so often.

"Wish I couldn't care," Nevia sighed.

Anastasia followed him and, in a series of quick movements, had his arm up and twisted behind his back, in such a way it would cause him a lot of pain but not any damage. And, if he were to struggle, she'd twist his arm harder.

"You never stop caring. It's mortal weakness - you always have something to lose."

Atticus let out a loud noise of pain, snapping a few curse words as he yelled; "Get the hell off of me! Ii'll drink if I want! Get off me!"

"Mm, I didn't choose to have it." Nevia muttered, shaking her head a little bit in the negative

"I'm your wife-to-be, and I refuse to watch you destroy yourself," Anastasia snapped back. "You learn different ways to cope than to wallow! Do you think this is what your parents want; for you to drown in alcohol and self pity and anger? You should respect their memory, not bog it down with beer and spirits. I thought you better than that, honestly." Her fingers tightened on his arm and then she let go of his wrist and shoved him away from her. "Fine. If that's how it's going to be, I won't stop you. I won't be there to watch. Call me when you're thinking straight. I'll be at the Barracks." She turned on her heel and walked away, shoulders visibly trembling.

Atticus stumbled and then fell onto his hands and knees because he couldn't balance straight. Just trembling violently as he let out a choked sob.

"You were born as something and now you're something else," Nevia mumbled with a small shrug.

Anastasia flinched at hearing him start to cry but just continued walking. With her harsh lifestyle, the only comfort she really knew how to give was leaving one to grieve without fear of being seen or judged.

"I was made into what I am; I wasn't born this way. I was as mortal as the rest of them."

Atticus moved to the side to press himself against the wall. Hiding himself in his arms as he sobbed, shaking violently.

"Mm," Nevia hummed, "That's the point I was making, I- could I be made into something else?" she asked hesitantly.

Anastasia made her way to the Barracks, a building completely shut off from the world aside from Hunters, and made her way deeper in until she entered an internal garden, one half of which had been turned into a cramped graveyard.

"Not until you're dead. And then, with no soul, there is no clay to mould you into something new. So no. You'll die as you are, and be nothing more."

Nevia just snorted at that, picking up another donut and eating it in one bite. Mumbling a simple; "You win some you lose some..."

Atticus just remained where he was.

"I'm not taking your soul just to twist it into depravity. It's too pretty for that. It would be like taking a masterpiece by Picasso, spending millions on it, and then burning it immediately after."

"You're being sentimental, Ana." An older Hunter called from a bench before he stood to stand beside her, gazing at the tight rows of tiny headstones. "You grieve once and move on; you don't let it bring you down. What's brought this on?"

"I'm getting married, Ezra." Anastasia lifted her left hand, showing the ring. "And my fiance has decided to drown his sorrows in alcohol."

"Congratulations. You're regretting the words you said to him?"

"No. But I should have understood that he does not grieve as we grieve. I should have let him do as he wanted. I just didn't want to see him hurt himself." Anastasia stepped carefully into the graveyard and knelt by one of the stones, pressing her fingertips to the top of it.
