Reuniting Tornedalians

Isaac paused when he spotted her out of the corner of his eye, climbing up to the first branch of the tree and looking down at her.

Christopher had wandered around the house when he had woken up, frowning when he couldn't find either of them. Heading into Jeni's bedroom he took the note off of her bed and read it.

"You can help me go through a case file then, right?"

She watched him, lying on the ground just watching.

The note had told him where she was and she promised that if Issac went outside then she would watch him and make sure that he was safe.

He nodded. "Come on."

"Go away." Isaac snapped down at her.

Christopher let out a small sigh of relief, putting the note back down and heading into the livingroom.

Peyton grinned and followed him.

Jeni gave a soft whine, she didn't move.

He brought her down to the archive room after he grabbed some files from his desk and he let her in, gesturing to the section that she needed.

"Leave me alone! I don't like people following me. I can look after myself."

"Thanks," Peyton hummed, heading to tge section and searching for the correct file. "The photos on your desk are nice. Who is the girl? She's pretty."

Jeni tilted her head, she knew he had his pocket knife on him, but her ears perked up as she heard something coming towards them and she got to her feet.

"That's Kaitlin, she's my sister."

Isaac sighed softly, pulling his knife out as he followed her gaze. "What is it?"

"Does she live with you here?"

Jeni started snarling, as suddenly three wolves walked out of the forest, Jeni had gotten to her feet when she sensed them and she stood in front of the tree that Issac was in.

"No, she lives back with my parents."

"Ah, what made you come over here then? Away from your family, I mean."

Isaac frowned when he noticed there were three of them, climbing one branch higher. Sharpening his knife on the trunk of the tree.

"Just needed to leave the city." He told her.

Jeni kept growling at the three wolves, she was going to protect Issac eventhough he was in the tree.

"Go away, I can stay up here until it gets light. That's what I always do. They can't get up here, I'm not stu-" He began, cutting off with a frown when he saw light glimmer off of a gun and then heard a gunshot. Christopher being just a ways off and having shot one of the three wolves with perfect aim.

"Why?"

When Christopher shot one of the wolves, the other two went for her, one managing to get past her and attempt to start climbing the tree Issac was in, but Jeni managed to get there somehow and she dragged the wolf down, sending him to the floor before the two ran off and Jeni looked over to Christopher, her human eyes showing through.

He shrugged. "Got tired of the noise, the busy life, you know stuff like that."

Christopher exhaled slowly, standing up straight and walking over to them. Crouching down in front of Jeni and resting his palm against the side of her muzzle to make sure she was okay.

Isaac grimaced, putting his knife back into his pocket.

"Mm, I guess."

She nodded, telling him in her way that she was okay, before she looked back up at Issac.

"What about you?"

Christopher sighed, lowering his head to press his forehead into the top of Jeni's head. "You go have a nice night. I'll bring him home, he knows he shouldn't be out on nights like this."

"What about me? I told you why I'm here.. To figure out the missing pieces of this case. Of this place in general. Things don't add up."

She looked up at him, she wanted to tell him something before she nodded her head and she disappeared into the forest.

"And that brought you out here, away from your home and your family?" He asked.

"Mhm," She hummed softly, "I'd go anywhere in the pursuit of knowledge."

Christopher watched her go.

He nodded. "Fair enough."

When the sun rose, Jeni woke up in her bed, having made her way back to their home, and she groaned softly as she stretched.

Christopher was in the kitchen, already cooking her up a breakfast; only plating up for himself and Jeni. Having decided as he had gotten Isaac home during the night to ground him.

"Me and my family have never been overly close anyhow, they used to umm... I call them hot headed, a court of law would call them abusive."

Jeni threw some clothes on as she normally did when she shifted back naked, and she walked out into the kitchen. "It smells good."

He nodded. "Yeah, Kaitlyn's family were like that too."

"Mm, you need to stop saving the day so I can have a morning off of cooking you breakfast." Christopher chuckled. "I have dealt with Isaac, so, don't talk to him today ok? It's part of his punishment."

"Your sister?"

She nodded. "I don't do this for no other reason that to make sure you don't suffer like I did." She reminded him, moving to sit on the counter. "And you don't have to make me breakfast."

He nodded. "Technically she's adopted, but we don't treat each other like that."

"Isaac needs a short sharp shock sometimes to remind him how dangerous it can be." Christopher mumbled, passing a plate of food over to her and sitting opposite with his own.

"Ah," She hummed. "That's lovely."

She sat with him, starting to eat. "I know," She sighed. "Does he know who the wolf was?"

He nodded. "She's just started college, I got a phonecall last night off her telling her how her first day went."

"Oh yeah? What course is she doing... How did her first day go?"

"Which one? There were three.. But no, no he has no clue who they were. Why would he?"
