“No, Flick wanted to see what she looked like. She didn’t wanna pick a name if she didn’t look like it or something.” Theo chuckled.

“You’ve not done anything fun since becoming a mom.”

“He’ll always have me.” Odette promised.

“Home!” Mila called through the house, dropping her bag off at the door and kicking off her shoes as she headed straight to the kitchen for some wine.

"Ah," Dorian laughed quietly at that. "Lots of people go for that method. Names are always a difficult decision."

"I've never liked parties Wren, it was Cain you went to those with." Tesni frowned, "Why don't you go and ask him?"

"Okay, don't do anything yet. I'll be down now, we need to talk!" Cain called from upstairs, having just stepped out of the shower.

"And you'll both always have me. You even if you and my brother ever split - your part of the family forever."

“If you’re divorcing me just send the papers to my lawyer or something!” Mila called back in jest, moving to sit at the breakfast bar.

“Because Cain won’t ever take me to another party and Nathan can’t relax at them because he feels the need to triage every drunk girl who stumbles.”

“Personally I think a-all babies look like angry o-old men.” Theo chuckled.

Dorian laughed at that and gave a nod of agreement. "I agree with that, yeah. Though I would normally say like a shrivelled potato."

"Do you want to hold the baby?"

Tesni lifted her hand up to stifle a laugh when she mentioned Nathan. "Poor man. That must be hilarious to watch though."

"Haha, since when did you get into comedy?" Cain called back lightly. Kissing her cheek five minutes later as he entered the room, still wet from the shower. "You okay?"

“Trauma response. My parents got blown up on the same day I was diagnosed with cancer, ended up getting that again, my wedding turned into a shootout and I’m barren… if I don’t start laughing I’m never going to stop crying.” Mila murmured as she downed a glass of wine, leaning into him. “I’ll be fine I’m just… taking a day to mope…”

“Fell off Willow the other day and I swear he almost put a neck brace on me before I told him I could walk it off.” Wren laughed softly. “He’s sweet though… wouldn’t change him.”

Odette nodded with a smile.

“Flick said she had my nose which… most kids look like their fathers when young. It’s a biological thing back from before dna tests to make sure that the man doesn’t see the kid and like leave it for the wolves thinking it’s some other mans baby.”

Marlowe gently passed the baby to her then.

"He must lead a stressful life, having to be responsible all of the time. Poor guy."

"Wren text me, she was.. concerned for you." Cain whispered with a frown.

"She was concerned about you, said you were saying you thought I'd leave you?"

“No, no of course not.” Wren shook her head. “He’s never even broached it after we had the initial discussion. I just really really don’t want to accidentally get pregnant and there’s nothing - no pill or implant or injection a hundred percent effective so not sleeping together is the only way to prevent it… I want to sleep with him I - I just really can’t risk it. The thought of accidentally getting pregnant makes me have a panic attack every time I even consider it.”

“I wouldn’t blame you if you did. How could I?” Mila whispered miserably.

“I miss her a lot, uncle Dorian.”

“Because I think you should.” Mila let out a sob then, moving her hands to her face. “I’m fucking useless. Can’t even do the one thing I’m fucking biologically designed to do. It’s so stupid.”

“It’s abnormal though isn’t it? Most people don’t want to get pregnant but will do it anyway because they trust the ninety nine percent in the birth control…” Wren whispered before adding meekly; “My therapist has suggested that I’m using it as an excuse so I don’t have to sleep with him even though I want to…”

“Don’t think I’ll be having much time for that do you?” Theo laughed softly

"Screw the therapist. Even if you are just using it as an excuse if you don't want to sleep with him, if you don't ever want to sleep with anyone, then that is fine Wren. Don't let anyone ever pressure you into anything, not any man, not any societal norms, not any do-good therapists."

"I didn't fall in love with you with the sole purpose to have children with you, silly." Cain laughed softly, hugging her tightly. "I feel in love with who you are, as a person. You could tell me you wanted to be a man and you've been secretly miserable all this time and I wouldn't leave you - be pissed you didn't tell me you were going sad but I wouldn't leave you. I love you Mila. Babies in our future or not."

"We can get some kind of chart up, every tally you put on is a drink I buy you when your girl is old enough to look after herself for a night." He laughed.

“How’s your day been?” Mila asked as she moved to pour herself another wine, pouring him one out too.

“Elle’s getting hungry, does Ezra need anything?” Karsi hummed as she came outside, smiling at seeing her daughters curled up together.

“Best go bite the bullet mm?” Theo murmured before heading back inside.
