Hope Falls

"People used to be horrible.. to both of us in school. I uh.. Eve had it worse, she ended up with black eyes and things. No one knew about that place though so, when it got too much we hid there until the end of the school day. Came up with plans; ways to make the world better. We'd watch the fish, the birds. We petitioned to save it but we couldn't; its some holiday complex now. They destroyed the forest for the buildings, the lake has no fish left - between pollution and the holiday makers being allowed to fish there."

He nodded in understandings. "What was your life like before you got involved in saving the planet?"

"It's always kind of been a thing. I mean; I grew up in the age of recycling being the new most important thing and global warming being proven. It's all second nature."

He nodded in understanding. "Do you have any other of your favourite places?"

"Here.. this.. curled up in bed."

He nodded. “It does look nice.”

"You wanna join?" She whispered.

“If you would like me to.”

Florence nodded, moving her arm up to make room for him under the blankets. "Your go to talk.... favourite colour and why."

He got under the blankets with her. “Red, back home we used to have these beautiful lilies, fire lilies they were my mothers favourite plant she always grew them.

"Did you help her or watch her do all the work?" She chuckled quietly.

“I used to help.”

"That's nice.. "

He nodded. “Would you like to ask me anything no else?”

"I'd like you to tell me more... anything. Details though."

“Okay we’ll I was born about one thousand years ago, you’ve met my parents and sister you vaguely met my baby brother today,” he told her. “I love to read anything but I adore horror books and thrillers. I love wolves and sharks because I think that they are pretty cool and I would love to o shark diving but the only problem is I can’t swim.”

"You can't swim? I'll have to teach you. I love swimming.. I think it's the closest thing someone like me will ever feel to flying."

He smiled softly. “We’ll I can’t wait for you to teach me.” He told her. “But flying, man it’s the best feeling, you feel so weightless so free.” He told her. “You feel like you could go anywhere and do anything, like nothing else in the world matters.”

"Mm," She hummed softly, closing her eyes.

“What’s your favourite food?”

"Oh uh... Bacon. Bacon and egg sandwich. Pancakes. Oats. Breakfast food."

"Thought you would have a list of exotic foods from all your travels with saving the planet." He asked her playfully.

Florence laughed quietly at that. "No, no."

He smiled softly. "So some foods that remind you of home?" He asked. "Did you have a favourite exotic food?"

"Jollof rice and egusi soup - Nigeria."
