Sienna hugged him back tightly, burying her face against his shoulder to muffle sobs. Growing quiet after only a few minutes.

"That it it... all it takes is sand and fire to make the strongest of glass though. We have fire, we just need to disappear to somewhere with sand now." He laughed.

“I’m glad everything’s worked out... even if Rhys isn’t with who we want him to be. I’m glad at least he’s happy, and us too...”

Serena laughed softly at that, leaning up to kiss him.

I’m not telling you to fawn over your aunt, but you have to respect how hard she’s worked to still be the one leading this company after everything she’s been through.” Maddox tapped her nose gently. “You’re more like her than you realise... it’s a good job you only take after her in the best ways though.” He smiled softly.

"I didn't realise it was only okay for me to need you, or one of them in non-working hours." Sienna muttered in genuine irritation, moving her face away. "Next time I will send a holiday request two months in advance of any post traumatic stress spirals."

They’re not mutually exclusive.” Maddox sighed deeply. “Truly is no winning with you sometimes Sienna. I’m treating you like an adult here - explaining to you why it is she’s irritated instead of calling her an idiot to make you feel better. I’m trying.”

Sienna shook her head, "Don't attack mum too, I don't want to hear about the parts of her you don't like.... that's for you to take up with her. I talk to you about anything and you just turn it into an argument, miss who you were when I was little.... your mean to me now. Don't understand what I've ever done wrong."

“You didn’t do anything wrong.” Maddox flinched at her words, taken aback. “I’m... just reminded time and time again that I’m not a very good father, it seems the harder I try the worse I am.” He murmured sadly. “Text me to let me know you’re safe at home.” He instructed before heading back inside.
