(( Yeah, an accident was my other reaction plus Darya and Cal have already joked about earthquakes so it is fitting; an earthquake would spook the kids who aren't there too ))

(( You know me well 😂

Sorry I poofed; a quick scan or two of documents for my new job turned into a hours and hours of effort ))

That Saturday...

"....so, stories and jokes put to the side; the team done a wonderful job over the past few months and it is thanks to their hard work and devotation that we have been able to have some genuinely good publicity, with no nasty little surprises, which everyone in this room is perfectly aware is a rare moment in our areas of work." A tall man with brunette hair finished up with a chuckle, lifting a champagne glass up to the rest of the room. "So, to them, hm? Everyone enjoy the Gala; dance, eat, drink and be merry as if it were Christmas but do pay attention to our fundraising efforts also." He hummed before stepping down.

"Thank god he didn't ask any of us to step up and talk, I was expecting it; bastard likes to put us in uncomfortable situations." Kadir laughed, arm around Serena's waist to keep her close as he took a sip out of his champagne.

"Look at them all cosy. Perhaps I should start a matchmaking company, I knew her and Kadir would be perfect for each other as soon as I met him. She is intense, so he is. He has goodie two shoe vibes without the I'm poor I need rescue angle. I hope I get a mention if they ever get married." Ronan chuckled to Bella, his gaze locked on Kadir and Serena.

"We don't have too stay long," Marlowe promised Maddox gently, taking a bite-sized brownie off of a silver plate on a table nearby. "I know your tired. Just showing our faces, right?"

"So a company that normally desimates communities is getting a huge pat on the back because a group of people helped people for once?" Tesni frowned, tugging at her elbow-length cardigan to try and cover more of her arm; having been co-erced into dressing appropriately if she were allowed to come but clearly uncomfortable with the amount of skin she was showing. "If they really cared about this fundraiser they shouldn't be wasting so much money and just giving it all to the charity, right?"

"That isn't how the game works, unfortunately, Tesni." Louis laughed. "Try not to question it too much, enjoy the food and remember with promised you one glass of champagne but no more. We'll get you home before midnight."

"Look how many declined calls." Sienna sighed as she passed her phone to Felix to show him her call history. "Grayson is one of my best friends, now he hates me. I mean he really does hate me... I just- did I do the wrong thing?"

"Theo! Can you help me read?" Christian asked, pushing the door open with one hand, his other holding onto the cover of a colourful book.

"Your so big now, huh?" Cleo hummed as she sat herself down beside Esme and placed a bowl of sweets between them.

"Hmm, I think you should've been mentioned. All your hard work deserved a shoutout." Serena mused quietly as she leaned into him, her own glass in hand.

"It's one official public date, you can get cocky at the actual wedding if she ever makes it that far." Bella laughed, playfully rolling her eyes. A few moments later a smile brightening up her face as she spotted her father walking towards her. "Dad? I thought you weren't coming over for another week or so?"

"Isabella," Gabriel greeted, kissing his daughters cheeks. "I decided to come early, surprise you and Serena," he hummed as he patted Ronan on the shoulder gently.

"Put a convincing enough smile on your face and I may extend that to another glass..." Karsi whispered conspiratorially, nudging Tesni playfully with her elbow and giving her a small wink. "These things here are the biggest stages you'll ever see people act on, even more entertaining than those theatre shows you go to."

"You knew I was tired before we got here but you still forced me into the shower after work and laid my clothes out for me on the bed." Maddox laughed quietly as he necked his drink, rubbing the back of his neck.

"You did what you thought was right... I think any opinion I have here will be biased considering how it was my mother died. I think you did the right thing and so did you... and its intentions that matter isn't it?"

"Not as big as you." Esme mumbled as she picked out some sweets, shoving them straight in and chewing happily.

"You know how to read, what is it you n-need help with?" Theo frowned as he looked over, putting his own book down on the bed.

"I'm never going to get bigger than this though, you stop growing eventually." Cleo laughed, grabbing a sweet or two for herself and eating one as she leant back and focused her gaze onto the television. "This what you chose to watch? It isnt about princesses." She mused.

Christian wandered over, pulling himself up onto the bed beside his brother and passing him the book to show him; despite the colourful colour, it was obviously for a mature reader; the words being ones he didn't know the meaning of and it being in block paragraphs with only the occasional sketch in the place of the cartoon like illustrations.

"I don't think it is bias, I think it is smarts." She sighed, turning so she could curl into his side and rest her head on his shoulder. "I just- upsetting that he is cutting me out of his life, y'know? Just for loving him."

"If I would of let us stay at home you would of been stressing about how you not being here would have look to everyone." Marlowe smiled, leaning up to kiss his cheek gently "Plus, Margot wanted me here to scope out our fundraising competition, and I need at least one dance out of you. Your really tired these days, maybe we should book you in for a blood test?"

"I always smile convincingly. I have been working on it, Wren has been teaching me. Watch, are you ready?" Tesni hummed, turning to face Karsi properly and giving a dramatic grin that seemed quite terrifying.

Louis laughed quietly at that. "Maybe don't take any kind of lessons off of Wren."

"Gabriel!" Ronan greeted cheerily in surprise, lifting his own hand up to tap his father in laws shoulder. "What a great surprise. Just in time for us to discuss using your name as a middle name for our next little one; Eric Gabriel is a bit of a mouthful but the main man himself has to be honoured in some way, right?"

"I am terrible at public speaking, and I dislike all eyes being on me so I think I may of literally cried." Kadir chuckled, kissing his cheek. "We can't all be as eye catching as you."

"It's about the lions eating the zebras whilst trying not to get eaten by the hippos." Esme grinned as she settled back into her seat, pulling the throw down from the back of the couch to cover her as she reached for more sweets.

"Where did you get this book f-from mm? You can't h-have got it from school, it's a b-bit old for you by the l-looks of it."  Theo asked as he flicked through, glancing over at him.

"Maybe one day he'll thank you. Maybe he's not allowed his phone as punishment? He may not be ignoring you purposefully."

"I don't need a bloodtest, I need sleep." Maddox pointed out as he gestured to a waiter for another drink. "And less work..." he added.

"Your real smile is pretty, stick to that one." Karsi chuckled, gently patting her shoulder. "Just stay close mm? I'm pretty sure your uncles are in one of the games rooms meaning they'll be playing some sort of game be it cards or darts or something for money. Don't let them drag you into it, especially if its cards, Altair has the worlds best poker face."

"Just like Rhys and all my other grandsons, I wouldn't have it any other way. Eric Gabriel Rousseaux Langstead, I love it. " Gabriel grinned, gently resting his hand over Bella's on her stomach. "You look well, how are you doing after last time?" he asked bluntly, as was his way.

"I'm fine daddy, I'm looked after." Bella nodded, giving him a reassuring smile.

"I would've been here to wipe the tears." Serena chuckled, turning her face to catch his lips with hers.

"Dad's room.. the books from school are boring; I wanted something better to read. Want to be smart like you, school is holding me back." Christian answered cheerfully.

"Oh that's... very violent." Cleo grimaced. "Are you allowed to be watching stuff like this? Should I text your parents... it doesn't seem age-appropriate."

"I- yeah I hope so." Sienna whispered, studying his face quietly. "At least my parents know about us now, good thing to come from it all. I thought my father would have a meltdown but he was really relaxed with it."

"Why don't you ask Karsi if you could take a retirement from work? Enough of the nieces and nephews are old enough to take over for you now so they wouldn't be going short. You could take some breathing time, then follow that dream; get qualified. Doctors without Borders eventually. Maybe now is the time for you to put you first, sweetheart?"

"That sounds like fun though." Tesni mused. "I could do a poker face; what if me and Louis both go? I could watch and learn?"

"If Karsi is fine with going through this horrible social event alone for a couple of hours then I would be okay with that." Louis chuckled. "I haven't gambled in a while."

"She is trying to be brave and I am telling her off for it," Ronan assured. "Admitting your struggling isn't weak, no? That is what she tells me, so I repeat the sentiment."

He deepened the kiss for a few minutes before leaning back from it. "I would of been humilated, so I got off lightly."

"I'm sure I could manage an hour or so on my own." Karsi nodded with a smile, "But you owe me a dance when you're done, husband."

"No shame at all." Gabriel confirmed, smoothing Bella's hair down gently before pulling her into a hug. "If you don't feel safe here we can have you home in less than a day. And I'm here now anyway, I'll stay until after the baby is born, help you feel better."

"Here is home for me dad... but you staying would be nice, thank you."

"It's fine Marley... Don't worry about it. I'll be fine."

"I can imagine you would've played it off just fine, you manage to charm everyone anyway." Serena laughed softly.

"It's nature, daddy says its the life cycle and it's good I know about it."

"School is holding you back huh?" Theo chuckled. "You really think so?"

"He's not been here yet... I imagine he'll have something to say next time he bumps into me... I know they've increased the visits where they check up on us during the night now, I bet that has something to do with it."

"It's all boring, too easy. I don't like saying it though, I said it once and my friend got mad at me; I think he thought I was being mean to him." Christian whispered with a small shrug.

"Maybe," She laughed quietly. "He'll probably just tell you to make sure we're safe, tell you not to hurt me. I think he is being perfectly tolerant of us at the moment."

"Mm, if you are sure. I don't want to get in trouble with them, I have already gotten on their bad side enough recently." Cleo whispered.

"An act; the only person I have been able to charm by just being me is you. Which is astounding to me, you are the best looking person in this room; look around, no one and nothing can even compare."

"Okay, OK. Promise me you'll think about it though? If you still want to be a doctor that is... do you?"

"The more the merrier, you can help us rinse out Rhys' fiancè too. She is watching Esme at the moment, as a test to how dedicated she is actually going to be for our family but... it has been a challenge to give her another chance."

"I thought I wormed my way out of that one then," Louis grimaced, allowing Tesni to grab his wrist and drag him away.

"You mean Rhys crying because he missed you?" Esme asked casually as she ate more sweets.

"People think you're bragging... I got that a lot too. Found it easier to just keep my mouth shut about things being easy."

"Well... we are being safe aren't we? And you said you were going to the doctor to get the pills that made it so it was even safer... I just don't want to give your parents more of an excuse to dislike me."

"Nothing would get you out of dancing with me." Karsi chuckled as she watched them go.

"Stop it." Serena whispered, cheeks beginning to burn. "You're quite the catch yourself." she added, looking the other way so he wouldn't see her reaction, grinning when she saw her father. "Does it add too much to the label if I introduce you to my dad?"

"Ah leave the poor girl be. We all made silly choices at that age."

"You had one kid and one on the way by his age, am I to believe that mom and my brothers were silly choices?" Bella raised an eyebrow, joking with him.

"You know what I mean. When he dropped me off here he was telling me about the wedding, let the boy be, there is always divorce if she is the wrong one as you two well know mm?"

"I dont even know anymore, we think I'm tired and stressed now, imagine if I was an ER doctor or something? In a warzone? Ten times the stress."

"More stress, but more fulfilling so it might give you a sense of accomplishment, right?" Marlowe shrugged. "Your burnout now because you have been doing something you never wanted to do for so long, for me... for us, and I am so grateful you made that sacrifice for us but you do need to start putting your wants and needs first. Your happiness matters, sweetheart. Think about it? Even if you qualify, give it a go then you can always go back to your family if it isn't what you thought it would be, or find something else. We aren't struggling, between Dorian and Margot I earn plenty too; you held me up for a long time until I found my feet, at least put thought to me taking the reigns and you focusing on making you happy for a while, okay?"

"There is divorce but he will still be emotionally devastated, once again. He barely got through it the first time, which means we barely got through it too." Ronan snorted, downing his drink. "It's ridiculous that he even took it back, how they are continuing like the past five months didn't happen."

"No, not at all. I would like to meet your father, you've said many great things; he sounded like quite the man. He must be, anyway, to have managed to get you to adulthood." He joked.

"Hi!" Tesni greeted cheerily as she entered the room her uncles were in. "Karsi agreed I could join if I was here with Louis so, what are we playing?"

"No, no. We said that you could watch, Tesni."

"They are coming around," Sienna promised. "My mother is starting to like you, I know she is; she is less dismissive of talking about you now - I've caught her being nice about us a couple of times."

Christian nodded subtly. "So... what should I do? I don't want to be so bored in school."

"I- he cried?"

"In his room, and I'm supposed to be the baby."

"There were nannies involved." Serena chuckled, taking his hand before leading him over to her family. "Hey daddy." she greeted happily, throwing her arms around her father in a hug.

"We'll talk about Rhys and his fiance later... but for now lighten up on him mm? If you two keep being so hard on him he'll end up not talking to you again which nobody wants." Gabriel murmured, arms closing around Serena. "Hi sweetheart." he grinned, kissing the top of her head before pulling away. "You look like your mother with your hair like that, beautiful - " he smiled before turning to look at them. "Both of you, I hope these men know how lucky they are."

"It wouldn't be fair if you played kiddo, we'd wipe you out in seconds. Your parents are both terrible gamblers." Dane smirked as he sipped at his drink, looking over when Altair let out a quick laugh, though the expression on his face remained neutral.

"Maybe... maybe Marley. Just, don't want to think about it tonight mm? I've already got a headache."

"I just don't want to get my hopes up that your parents like me and then when they turn up next they end up being... as they have been. Which is justified like I get it but... you know what I mean."

"Have you joined any clubs after school yet?"

"Nu uh, I don't know what to choose." Christian whispered. "Can't pin down what I like more, and what happens if I choose wrong?"

Sienna nodded gently in understanding, leaning up to kiss him gently. "Mm, well, I love yoy; so you know that I am on your side at least."

"That's fine, enough of that tonight." Marlowe agreed gently, finishing up her drink and putting her glass down. "One dance? And then we can bid the party scene farewell and head home, get an early night?"

"I'm playing." Louis chuckled, pulling up a seat and sitting himself down. "Tesni is going to watch and learn."

"I think I would learn more from him..." She nodded toward Altair. "Can I watch you instead, Altair?"

Ronan snorted softly, "Bella knows exactly how lucky she is, actually. Though I feel like the real ones who need to appreciate myself and Bella are all of you, I don't know how to cope being in the presence of such a good looking couple. Esme and little Eric - when he arrives - are going to take the world by force."

"Oh Ronan, you will never change." Kadir mused before offering a hand out to Gabriel. "It is an honour to meet you, Serena speaks very fondly of you."

"Oh." Cleo frowned, "I uh... you going to be okay down here for a minute? I need the bathroom."

"What's my favourite sister been saying about me that makes you want to spend time with me? She usually doesn't reserve any kind words for me at all."

"She's our only sister." Dane snickered, though shrugged when Tesni stated her preference. "I have to excuse myself in a few moments anyway, I'm meeting someone. But you have me until then."

Esme nodded, waving her off dismissively.

.
"I'd argue that the children get their dashing looks from their grandfather." Gabriel chuckled, shaking Kadir's hand. "You must be quite the man to accomplish all of this - " he gestured towards the stage, having caught the back half of the speech. "Whilst keeping my little hurricane happy and attended. She's told me about you too, Kadir. I look forward to getting to know you better. I must warn you - "

"Daddy - " Serena grimaced, grabbing a drink and downing it when she was cut off.

"I must warn you that if you hurt Serena or my granddaughter - "

"Dad!"

Maddox nodded, finishing his own drink.

"Then you can just try something else, it's not bad to not pin something down."

"That you had a good poker face and no one is ever going to be able to beat you." Tesni laughed, moving around the table and pulling a chair up beside Altair.

"Well you may not be phased by that Dane, but I am.. how rude of you Tesni." Louis frowned, not argumentative as he sat himself down. "I am amazing at this game also."

Cleo ruffled her hair as she got to her feet and headed toward the stairs; going into Rhys' room before heading up them though. "Rhys?"

"Serena is the fire in life right now," Kadir assured with a warm grin. "I have no intention to ever hurt her, and if I ever get to meet Esme properly you can garuntee I will treat her like the Queen I hear she is. It's a man's world, but would be nothing without a woman or a girl, correct?"

Marlowe took his hand and led him out to the dance floor, slipping an arm around his neck once they were on the dance floor. "I know your tired, I know your not happy right now but I am so proud of everything you have given up for us sweetheart. You prove how much you love me, and our kids, every single day. I appreciate you so much, you know that? You and the kids are the centre of my universe."

"Isn't it? They all want you to pay them lots of attention when you sign up, y'know? I don't like making people sad."

"I like this one." Gabriel chuckled, patting Kadir on the shoulder gently. "You'll have to come visit at some time. Serena can show you around. I'll grab the photo albums from the country houses, Serena adored the camera as a child."

"Oh my god." Serena murmured in embarrassment, looping her arm through Louis' and borderline dragging him to the bar where she ordered them a line of shots, downing her own instantly.

"Compliments from Karsi... the world must be ending." Altair raised an eyebrow in amusement as he gathered the cards; Dane pushing his chair out from the table slightly so he wouldn't be dealt in.

"And you're mine." Maddox assured with a small smile.

"Hey." Rhys greeted as he rubbed his hair dry with a towel, having just got out of the shower, only half dressed as he met her at the door.

"People won't be sad as long as you really tried."

"I'd be sad, in myself though. Don't want to back out of things after promising."

"Hi," She whispered in another greeting, offering a nervous smile. "I uh... I know I hurt you but Esme said.. I just wanted to reiterate how sorry I am, Rhys."

"I know," Marlowe hummed, kissing his cheek before resting her chin on his shoulder. "I'd know that even if you did start to put yourself first though, okay? Don't forget that. You won't be being selfish, and there are some things in your life where you have to take the intitiave to put yourself first, I can't be forcing you to do it like I wish I could. You deserve happiness, Maddox, true happiness."

"She compliments you all the time; she compliments you tons, criticises Maddox loads though - she hates him."

"Tesni." Louis warned.

"It's true!"

Kadir laughed in amusement, allowing Serena to leaf him away. "Your father seems nice."

"Dad once stayed up all night when I was home one summer, I brought someone home and he did that thing people do in movies - he sat in the foyer in the dark and turned the light on when he heard me come in. Just sat there in the chair with a drink. I died of embarrassment." Bella chuckled. "Didn't you dad?"

"I took my chances, it was funny." Gabriel snickered.

"Ignore the threats and everything, he obviously thinks we're a lot more serious." Serena grimaced, taking the rest of her shots.

"I am happy, don't worry about it."

"What exactly did Esme say? She's basically a baby, just ignore her." Rhys frowned, throwing the towel on his bed.

"That's my cue." Dane hummed when his phone pinged, excusing himself and heading out to the entryway.

"Karsi and Maddox not getting on? Quelle surprise." Altair looked over in question at Louis. "Anything in particular this time or just the usual you two winding each other up again?"

"I think your happy with me, with the kids... I don't think you are happy in here though." Marlowe rested her hand just above his heart. "Please be honest with me, even if I can't make it better the way I wish I could... at least tell me so you aren't carrying the burden of the feelings alone."

"I- she just told me just how upset you were, just how much you missed me which I know you said but; you didn't say it like that and I guess it hit different?"

"He obviously loves you very much. It's lovely to see you have someone looking out for you like that."

"That is amazing!" Ronan grinned. "I might do that, I need more tips on how to intimate any of Esme's future lovers. What about with the boys - what did you do to test them?"

"Just the normal; Marlowe has well and truly thrown a spanner between their relationship. Ever since Marlowe was pregnant with Sienna the two haven't been able to stand each other - there is never any real reason for it."

"I heard it is since you nearly killed mother." Tesni answered with a relaxed shrug.

"More complex than that, Tesni."

River was leant against a slim-lined sporty convertible car, dressed in a black dress and a hooded cape-like cardigan that she had up to cover her hair; having brought in to the romanticism of the whole situation. When she spotted him, she approached the entry way, leaning against the brick column instead and offering him a gentle smile of greeting.

Altair chuckled in amusement then, face cracking into a smirk. “So she knows about what happened? Would’ve thought you’d keep that from the kids?”

You look stunning. Dane signed with a grin as he looked her over, taking her hand and kissing the back of it gently.

“My dad only visits once in a blue moon, last time was when Lux was born. He doesn’t really enjoy travelling... he tends to stay at home.”

“I didn’t, they weren’t stupid enough to bring anyone back to the house.” Gabriel laughed as he grabbed a drink and took a sip.

“I’m fine Marley, honestly. You sorry too much about it, about me.”

“You don’t need to be sorry. It’s over and done with. Put it behind us mm?”

"Maddox screamed loud enough about it at a birthday party a while ago so there was no hiding it." Louis shrugged. "Probably for the best though; secrets are counter productive. We've never claimed to be perfect people."

"It's refreshing. The families who would pretend to be perfect to me were the ones who would abandon me without an ounce of reason." Tesni whispered, offering Louis a grin. "I appreciate the humanity of it. Everyone has a history, nice to see it isn't just me."

You look dashing She countered, moving the hood down off of her hair before adding playfully; Did you make an easy escape? It would be bizarre for them all, you and I meeting. I had said I wouldn't give a Levi a chance due to the connection.

"Mm, that is how some people are. Globe-trotting is exhausting. It takes a certain breed?"

"Okay, well were Eric to end up being stupid enough to do so; what would you reccomend?" Ronan laughed. "I need to start planning now."

"I always worry about you," Marlowe whispered, kissing just about his ear. "It is just a part of loving you this much, as I imagine you understand in regards to me. As soon as work calms down, and sleep becomes something less precious, I'll make you breakfast and we can watch the sunrise like we used to."

"I am though... sorry."

“Your mother did this - “ Altair gestured to the scar through his brow down his eye. “She’s far from perfect, far far from it.”

Nobody even questioned it Dane grinned, snaking an arm around her waist, pulling her into the building and hiding with her behind a corner as he pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

“I will take you to the house one time. My dad has an eye for beautiful homes.” Serena hummed.

“Mm... could leave something in front of the door. Like a pets squeaky toy? Scare the life out of him if he steps on it in the dark.”

“I know baby, you’re just there minding your own business and your daddy and grandpa are plotting against you already.” Bella rolled her eyes, talking to her bump as she gently ran her hand over it. “Silly men mm?”

“Well it’s all forgiven... the past is the past. What’s important is how we feel now.”

“A nice breakfast sounds good.”

"It sounds like heaven, right? Just you and me, and the sunrise?" Marlowe whispered, kissing his cheek gently. "I love our little ones, but sometimes I do long for the days when it was just us. Able to have all our us time for exactly thst; us."

"It isn't though, is it? I know that more than anyone... the past leaves scars."

"That's hilarious I love that idea." Ronan chuckled, before offering Bella a warm smile. "The way you look at Cleo, Rhys has a lot more of a scare in store for him then a squeaky toy."

"Does he now? Interesting."

River kissed him back deeply, hands moving to rest on his triceps gently as she stepped as close as she could toward him.

"I bet you deserved it." Tesni laughed.

“That depends on who you ask - “ Altair grinned, not noticing when when the drink in his glass began to shake ever so slightly  - beginning to deal the cards.

I’ve missed you. Dane pulled away so he could sign, kissing down her neck gently before pressing his lips back to hers passionately, body pressing her into the wall.

“You cried nearly every day when he left, Bella be kinder to the girl or he’ll choose her again.

“I don’t look at her like anything... I’m doing my best to get on with her for Rhys’ sake.” Bella murmured, resting her hand against the wall when she felt a little unsteady, her other hand going to her head - just assuming she was having a dizzy spell.

“He does.” Serena nodded. “I have this apartment right in central Paris too, it’s beautiful and right in the heart of things. I’ll have to - “ she started, cutting off as glasses began to fall from the shelves as the ground began to shake.

“I don’t know what more you want me to say. All that matters is that we’re together now... anything else... I’ll get over quickly.” Rhys assured, wrapping an arm around her and pressing a kiss to her forehead.
