Michael followed him closely, sometimes circling around him and sometimes going ahead by a handful of metres.

Michael kept looking back to Alexander, making sure he was going in the right direction.

Michael let his tongue loll out with his happiness as he stepped forward.

Jean-Claude kissed his head.

Michael's tail wagged before he suddenly froze, ears perking and head jerking to the side.

"Fields?" Jean-Claude looked to Coraline in question.

Michael suddenly shot off into the bushes, and when he came back he was hauling a deer with him, tail wagging happily.

"If you don't want a family with me, that's perfectly fine by me. I don't think I'd be that great of a mother."

"I normally take him for a run in the fields."

Michael dropped it in front of Alexander and sat down, tail wagging back and forth happily as he looked up at him.

Michael tilted his head to the side befor ducking towards the deer and nosing at it.

"You'll have to lead the way. There are various fields and I'm unsure as to which one you take Lloyd to."

Michael nosed at the deer for a moment before he found the place he wanted and dug his teeth in, tearing a strip free and quickly eating it.

"The one close to the house." She brought him to the field.

Genevieve smiled slightly, smoothing her dress out with her hands.

When Michael was finished he sat down near to Alexander and started grooming himself.

"So come on, what do you want to do?"

"Oh. Right." Jean-Claude smiled, but it seemed a little weak. "Does he ever get near the willow tree by the river bank on the far side?"

Michael, when he had finished cleaning himself, lay down on his side and tucked himself against Alexander, nose resting on his paws.

"I don't know." Genevieve shrugged.

"No, he only stays where I can see him. Why?"

Alexander smiled at him as he continued to play.

"Well, we could go home for a bit."

"The tree is a grave marker. I don't particularly want anyone over there." Jean-Claude rubbed the back of his neck.

Michael sighed softly and shuffled so he could flip his tail over his nose.

Genevieve nodded before hesitantly holding her hand out towards him.

He took her hand and he gently kissed it.

Alexander gently stroked him.

"W-We didn't have the bodies, but we wanted somewhere in which to honour and to remember our mother and our unborn brother or sister." Jean-Claude's voice was quiet and a little shaky. "S-So Genevieve suggested we plant a tree by the river, because, w-when we lived in France, mother used to take us for picnics on the river bank and sing us lullabies and let us sleep in the shade of the willow trees. Something made the tree here grow quick. It went from a sapling to fully grown within about two months."

Genevieve smiled leaning up and kissing his chin in return before tugging gently on his hand to try and pull him in the direction of the house.

Michael moved himself just slightly so he could rest his head on Alexander's leg.

Coraline gently hugged him. "Don't worry, the Willow tree is intact and it still stands strong."

Genevieve started humming something softly under her breath as she walked.

Michael soon seemed to doze off, breathing deep and regular as his body noticeably relaxed.

Jean-Claude hugged her back, giving a gentle shake every couple of moments. "It might seem silly, but they're i-important to us. Its nice to go out there and talk to them, even if we don't get a reply. Genevieve likes sleeping in the branches."
