"This is the longest she has stuck at anything, which is great. Just the other kids.. it is open to the whole school so she is one of the youngest and I'm just concerned about what they might be saying or doing around her."

"Okay, you take the baby stage- I'll do after that." Ronan laughed

“She’s not exactly been sheltered Marley.”

“Deal.” Bella hummed with a small laugh.

"As sheltered as she could be, I just don't like not knowing what is going on."

“It’s part of growing up.”

"I know, I know. Doesn't mean I have to like it though, hm? The only thing I am looking forward to is seeing Maddox interrogate the first boy she brings home."

“I doubt he would, he’d be a hypocrite to do so considering how he wanted to be left alone with you.”

"If he doesn't, I'm going to." Marlowe chuckled. "No one gets near her heart without passing the parent approval test."

“Part of the first lessons of life isn’t it, having your heart broken...”

"A lesson I'm going to do everything in my power to prevent from having to be learnt."

“You won’t be a bad parent if it does happen, just know that.”

"Mm, I know. All future problems, anyway - for now we just have to put up with her using debating tactics on us during arguments and listening as she practices her speeches."

“Is she any good?”

"Mm, really good - it's quite scary. Lawyer or politician potential."

“She can’t be in law, she’d spend her life sentencing her family.”

"She can go into whatever line of work she wants to, Cal." Marlowe answered with a frown. "Law has lots lots branches, anyway."

“That’s like saying she can be a police officer when her father traffics for a living. It’s absurd.”

"You want an argument again, because we can have one." Marlowe challenged. "My children can be whatever they want to be Caliban."

“If your children go into any kind of law or law enforcement they’ll either have to be deliberately bad at their jobs, corrupt, or put us all behind bars.”

"My children can do whatever they want to do with their lives, Caliban." Marlowe repeated frostly

Caliban sighed deeply, not saying another word as he made the coffees up and passed her one over.

Marlowe took the coffee off of him with a quiet thanks

“I’m thinking of getting a new place... do you want the keys for here?” Caliban asked quietly.

"Oh.  No, no I uh.. I have no use for this place." Marlowe whispered, though skimmed her eyes around the apartment briefly. "Too many memories, hm?"

Later that night, Serena's phone would of began to rin

“It’s not the same without him... I’ve had this place for years. Bought it about a year after me and Darya got married because I couldn’t be in the house at night. Every now and then when they argued with their own wives my brothers would come here... you and Maddox moved in. Then Dorian when you guys moved out... it just doesn’t feel right anymore being here...”

“Hello?” Serena answered tiredly, sitting herself up in bed as she answered her phone.

"Mm, yeah. You need somewhere that is just for you; start making new memories, right? What are you thinking of getting - house, apartment? Big, small? Spare rooms?"

"Hello, is this Serena Rousseaux?" A gruff female voice came over the phone, the sound of generic calming music - similar to a wait room - being audible in the background.
