“Well actually my one complaint is that my dad never let me have a pet because of the hair. I did riding lessons a few times a week but was never allowed my own. Dad hates pet hair everywhere, complains whenever we go to my aunt Karsi’s because she has resident cats and then her son brings fosters over from his shelter sometimes - my one complaint.” Esme chuckled

About a month and a half later, after multiple coffees, dog walks and dates; Dale grimaced as Archie scratched at the door and yipped happily to try and get back into the house. "You've taught him bad habits. Do you want to come inside for a coffee or maybe something stronger?"

“Oh you’re finally inviting me in, never thought you’d ask.” Esme grinned with a nod as she handed the lead back over to Dale.

“Are you sure this won’t be too much for her?” Karsi frowned in the drawing room as she watched Mila pin up another welcome home banner to the wall.

“Karsi, respectfully, shut the fuck up and stop worrying.” Mila chuckled as she leaned down from the ladder and patted the top of Karsi’s head with a grin. “I love you like you’re my own mom but you also annoy me as much as she did. Cain said she was great yesterday when he went to visit her, happy to be back home with everyone. She’ll be fine. When Nathan drops her off and she thinks she just gets to go back up to her room all boring like but really her favourite people are here. She’ll love it.”

“Just don’t wanna overwhelm her.” Karsi wrinkled her nose, though nodded and headed into the kitchen to make sure that all of Wren’s favourite snacks were still in perfect order where she’d set them up a few minutes ago.

“I’m sure if she wasn’t feeling it Nathan would’ve let us know by now when he first grabbed her from the centre. He seems a good enough guy.” Tobias hummed quietly from where he was sat on the couch, watching the kids play with their toys on the floor.

"Well, I had to be sure you were kosher you know? I wouldn't want you to be one of these rich ones who get rich by nicking things from people's drawers." He chuckled, unclipping Archie's lead from his collar and opening the door to let him in ahead. Stepping back and motioning with his hand for her to go in first, "After you, Essy."

The front door would of led straight into an open planned livingroom- kitchen set up, minimalist in design with a sleek black, beige and white design - an oak set of shelves set up against the wall next to the stairs where his police badge rested, alongside a photo of himself and Archie in uniform from about a year ago when he became an official officer. Archie also being inaugurated with a harness that made it clear he was a dog in the K9 unit.

Tesni was glued to Tobias' side, having not let him go to far since his breakdown. Silently listening to everyone as she brushed her thumb over Tobias' knuckles.

"It won't overwhelm her." Cain assured gently. "She'll be ecstatic to see everyone, especially since she's gotten out a week before I head out to compete. It gives her enough time to watch a few of my practices."

"You make everything about you, Cain." Louis chuckled before heading into the kitchen after Karsi. Slipping his arms around jer waist from behind, "Are you okay?"

"Where should I put these balloons?!" Logan asked with an excited grin.

“I’m fine.” Karsi assured, leaning back into him. “Just a lot to worry about - telling Wren about the baby and how she’s gonna react, Wren coming home and how that’s gonna go, being too scared to ask Cain if he went through with the doping. General feeling tired, knowing my brothers are gonna give me shit I just - … tired.”

“Here.” Mila reached down for the balloons. “I’ll take em and put them up here, good job on blowing them up Logan, they’re nice and big.” She grinned before looking at Cain then Tesni. “Go out in a week and this one still hasn’t even begun packing. Can you believe it?”

“Tes doesn’t pack till last minute either for anything.” Tobias chuckled quietly

Esme grinned as she walked in and looked around, the smile soon disappearing from her face when she realised what his job was, her expression turning into an almost horrified one. “Y-you’re a cop…”

"Has that not come up yet?" Dale asked with a raised eyebrow, stepping inside and closing the door behind himself. "Goodness, you don't really ask me about me do you? You need to do better. One year out of training next Monday, yeah. Do you want a hot drink or an alcoholic one?"

"Doping to qualify is bad but it isn't.... I mean, it could be worse, couldn't it? The bigger concern for me is if he'll do it next week before his final Olympic swim or not - that's when he is more likely to get caught for it but it is a issue to worry about next week" Louis sighed, moving her hair away from her neck so he could kiss the crook of her neck. "We can't control how Wren reacts to the news, Cain, Tes and Logan have taken it well though so we need to believe that she'll follow suit."

"I don't need much, anything I forget I can just buy when I am over there." Cain laughed quietly. "As long as I have everything I need to swim, that's all that matters."

."Oh the privilege." Tesni laughed quietly then, turning her attention onto Mila. "How is Sebastian's debut coming along?"

"Do we have to talk about him?" Cain sighed.

“You were in a suit and tie the first day I met you… I assumed you worked in a fucking office. Shit. Shit!” Esme hissed through her teeth as she stepped back, shaking her head. “I can’t be here…”

“If she takes it well then I feel like we can finally relax as a family and all of that… if she takes it badly I feel like everything’s going to splinter and I don’t know if I’m prepared for that. You know?”

“We’re rolling out promotion for his single next week. It’s good.” Mila grinned, getting down from the ladder and pressing her chin to Cain’s shoulder as she wrapped her arms around him from behind

"I don't see why this is such a big deal, Esme?" Dale frowned, leaning in the doorway as he watched her closely. "What is the problem here, exactly?"

"So she'll be on the phone every second she gets to make sure it is all running smooth and what is happening in my life isn't even going to matt-"

"Her life was all about you at the last Olympics, put the green skin away Cain." Tesni muttered with an eyeroll. "You should be happy your wife is finally doing what she wants to do with her life."

"I'd rather.. try and stay positive.'

“I can’t be dating a cop! My dad will hit the fucking roof! You have no - I can’t be here I’m sorry. He’ll fucking lock me up in a tower and arrange a marriage for me if he finds out I ended up with a cop on my own judgment! Besides, you know I’m eighteen and you just offered me alcohol so you’re a pretty shitty cop, no?”

“I can multitask my love. Whilst you’re competing it’s just me and you, and my focus is entirely you. You know this.” Mila assured gently, kissing the back of his neck.”

“I know, sorry, sorry. Positivity and all that stuff. Love and light.” Karsi chuckled. “Or whatever it was the midwife said last week.”
