"She's my favourite so far," Louis agreed gently.

"Your going to be distracted by him, what he is doing or isn't doing." Cain muttered with a shake of his head. "Maybe you should just stay here this time Mila."

Tesni grimaced, leaning in to whisper to Tobias; "Should we give them space?"

“What businessman likes cops?! You’re always digging around into shit and implying illegality where there is none.” Esme sighed deeply, scratching Archie behind the ear and shaking her head. “As handsome as you are I can’t be here… I can’t see you anymore.” She murmured, heading toward the door.

“I - maybe.” Tobias nodded as he stood up.

“Hey… what?” Mila frowned as she moved away from him then, gently turning him to face her. “Why on earth would I stay at home whilst my husband competes in the olympics?”

“Feels weird knowing I don’t have to get back in the car to go again in a few hours.” Wren grinned as she got out of Nathan’s car, slamming the door shut behind her before heading up the driveway.

"Plenty if they are genuine." Dale answered with a frown, stepping out of the doorway so she could leave if she wanted. "This still isn't making any sense to me Essy."

"It should feel great, home sweet home, right?" Nathan grinned as he followed behind her - wheeling her suitcase along behind himself.

Tesni quietly got to her feet and headed into the hallway. Smiling brightly when she spotted Wren coming up the driveway. "She's home."

"Your clearly so busy here. I can do it alone Mila." Cain mumbled.

“Woah woah - Cain… you’re not, you’re not jealous are you?” Mila frowned, concerned rather than angry. “Cain… you’re not? Babe come on now…”

“Logan get the lights sweetheart!” Karsi grinned as she headed back into the room, grabbing the party poppers from the side and handing them out.

Tobias gently scooped up Ezra from the floor and bounced him gently so he wouldn’t be worried when he lights went out.

“Next chapter of my life and that whole cliche.” Wren grinned, reaching back and taking his hand to give it a squeeze. “With you?”

“Ir wouldn’t make sense to you… but my family have been wronged that many times by the police, let down systemically because we have money. Kidnappings the police have fobbed off because who cares if one more rich person gets knocked around mm? Attempted murders, assaults - the police don’t help us with any of it. I had to have security throughout school because people harassed me for what my family did as a child and the police didn’t give a shit because poor little rich girl. My family won’t be happy about this.”

"Of course the system isn't perfect, I am well aware aware how many people it has let down in the past. I was let down by it once myself. All of the failings your family have experienced though is not my personal fault, I signed up to try and get in and make it better for everyone Esme. I can't stop you from walking out of that door right now, but I can tell you that you are being drastically unfair right now."

"With me." Nathan agreed, leaning in to kiss her cheek gently.

"Shit." Tesni whispered to herself when she spotted the party poppers, shaking her head and crossing the space to catch her mothers wrist. "I should of thought to tell you. Can we not... none of the poppers."

Logan done as told, happily flipping the switch to turn all the lights in the house off.

Ezra giggled happily when he was lifted up by his father, instantly grabbing the collar of his top and fiddling his fingers in it.

Cain shook his head in the negative, going quiet when the lights turned off and moving to get ready to greet his sister.

“It’s not unfair - I like you. And I can’t get in any further than this because my family won’t accept you. They wouldn’t accept me dating a cop, Dale. And if we keep going I’m gonna end up liking you more than I already do and then this is going to end up too painful.” Esme whined, torn.

“What? Why?” Karsi frowned before looking over at Ezra’s giggle, expression changing when she spotted Tobias. “Oh… oh of course. Yeah. Sorry, sorry Tes I didn’t even think. Of course.” She nodded, putting the bag of poppers down on the side.

“This isn’t over Cain.” Mila frowned deeply as she moved to stand beside him.

“Don’t forget to flick the lights back on and say surprise at the right time buddy.” Tobias encouraged as he used his free arm to pat Logan's shoulder. “You did a good job turning them off, just gotta do the other bit good too.”

“Thank you for giving me a second chance Nate.” Wren whispered, kissing him back gently before opening the door and heading inside.

Louis made his way over to pick Elle up off of the floor, whispering just before Wren came in: "Are we going to yell surprise the loudest for your Aunt Wren?"

"Don't apologise, I should of thought to say something - I should of remembered those are a bug part of a surprise party." Tesni whispered, about to pull her into a hug when she heard the front door open. Calling cheerily after letting silence rest for a few moments; "Surprise!"

Cain didn't bother saying it, instead pulling Wren into his arms to hug her tightly. "I'm so glad your home, I am so proud of you. See, I knew you could do it."

"Surprise." Logan hummed, flicking the lights out.

"We don't have to tell them, they don't have to know." Dale answered with a frown. "They can just get to know me as a person first, can't they?"

Elle nodded enthusiastically, waiting quietly before almost jumping from Louis’ arms when Wren walked in ‘A prize! A prize!” She shouted, clapping her hands happily.

“Hey! Oh wow!” Wren laughed in genuine surprise when the light came on and everyone called out, happily hugging her brother back. “I - wow.” She chuckled again.

“Ah, so he didn’t spill the beans then.” Tobias grinned at Nathan when he saw the look on Wrens face. “We had bets on that you might not be able to contain the secret.”

“Well done baby.” Karsi praised Logan gently. “Thank you so much.”

Esme swallowed thickly, moving to nervously bite at her nails as she glanced around.

"I'm going to start up the coffee machine." He whispered sadly, having resigned himself to the presumption she was going to leave. Walking into the kitchen area and grabbing himself a cup.

"Well done! Well, that was certainly loud Elle. Well done, I think we won't that." Louis laughed, placing her back down onto the floor then.

Logan smiled warmly at Karsi's praise, silently nodding to congratulate himself.

Cain squeezed Wren gently before pulling back from the hug. Musing quietly to Tobias, "It seems I owe you some money now, doesn't it?"

"I am good at keeping secrets, thank you." Nathan laughed. "Better than the rest of you anyway, that's why I was the one to go and pick her up."

Tesni watched Tobias closely, letting out a slow sigh of relief when he seemed to be okay. Only relaxing slightly though.

Esme quickly followed behind him, grabbing his hand to turn him around before pressing her lips to his in a deep kiss.

“I’ll take it in the form of a round when we’re celebrating your win next month.” Tobias grinned, hauling Elle up into his arms too when she started fussing around his leg.

Wren moved to hug her sister tightly, wrapping her arms around the back of her neck.

“Thank you, for taking time off work and getting her home safely.” Karsi smiled at Nathan. “And for helping us with this, we appreciate it.”

Dale closed his eyes and kissed her back deeply, hooking an arm around her waist to bring her closer against him.

"Deal." Cain chuckled.

"Oh, hi." Tesni whispered, hugging her back gently. "I've missed you, I - Later we need to talk, not yet. Happy times first but I need to catch you up on things I didn't want to... bother you with in that place."

"There isn't any need to thank me. I wouldn't of missed it."

Esme tangled her fingers in his hair, tugging gently as she pulled him closer.

“Don’t forget you’ll have to let your favourite niece and nephew take pictures in your medals room, they need those for street cred when they’re older.” Tobias grinned, adjusting his children in his arms gently.

Wren nodded as she whispered; “Lots to catch you up on too.” Before stepping back and gently taking Nathan’s hand, swallowing thickly as she looked at her parents. “Me and Nate aren’t just friends and if you’ve got a problem with - “

“We know, sweetheart. We know.” Karsi assured gently. “We’ve talked about it and we know you’re an adult now, and Nathan’s proved himself where it comes to you… he’s welcome here, anytime.”

"I think mucking out your horses on my days off even when you weren't here has helped me to win them over a little bit." Nathan laughed cheerily, squeezing Wren's hand before leaning in to kiss her cheek gently.

"Welcome to the crazy world of dating, properly dating." Tesni mused gently to Wren. "Just know that if you hurts you then he isn't going to live the tale."

"You know that I'm not against it." Cain laughed, frowning when he spotted Logan shifting his weight uncomfortably in the corner. "Logan, come on. You get to welcome her home too."

Logan swallowed thickly, shaking his head. "I should go and check on the rabbits."

Dale moved to lift her up onto the counter, moving his hand beneath her top to rest it on the small of her back.

Esme gasped in surprise when she was lifted, moving to wrap her legs round his waist before moving to pull his shirt off. “Perks of mandatory fitness on the force I assume?” She smirked as she ran her nails down his chest.

“I mean… your ex lives but he is in a French prison for the next three years or so - so… on par punishment of course.” Karsi chuckled. “We don’t do heart break around here.”

“Oh we have rabbits now?” Wren asked quietly as she turned to Logan once she heard him speak.

“The big bunny!” Elle squeaked at the mention of the rabbit, moving her hands behind her head as she tried to gesture for the ears. “Mama me see the bunny too? Bunny with Lolo?”

Tesni grimaced, though nodded in response to Elle's request. "Sure you can go up and see the bunny Elle. If your okay with that Log?"

"No, they're the shelters. They just.. live here. The hedgehogs went home last night." Logan whispered, smiling at Elle's motions and offering a hand out to her. "Lets go."

Dale made a small noise of content, leaning into her touch. "You'll find my job will give us plenty of perks in our love life."

“Oh please elaborate?” Esme chuckled, moving to kiss down his neck.

“You’ll have to introduce me to them when I’ve settled back in, and any others you’ve got.” Wren said gently, her way of subtly laying down a truce.

Elle grinned as she wriggled out of her fathers arms and down his leg skilfully, taking Logan’s hand.

“It’ll be fine.” Karsi assured, rubbing her shoulder gently. “We’ll have his sentence lengthened if needs be.”

“Cain…” Mila murmured, unable to keep quiet any more as she headed into the kitchen and expected him to follow.

Logan watched Wren cautiously, moving his attention away when Elle took his hand - wandering up the stairs with her and to the room he kept the animals in.

Tesni nodded subtly, whispering to Wren; "Should we wander out and go and see the horses? Just me and you."

Cain sighed deeply, wandering after Mila. "Can we just leave it alone? You want to launch his career, so you may aswell stay that's all I meant by it. There isn't any point you coming with me."

"Oh but you imagination will be so much better." He hummed, digging his nails into her skin.

Wren nodded, looking back and kissing Nathan’s cheek. “If they start terrorising you just come get me.” She chuckled before heading out back with her sister.

“I don’t know what on earth she means.” Karsi chuckled. “I meant it though Nathan - we’re sorry about how harsh we were before but we were just worried, she was fragile and we didn’t want what happened to happen because someone hurt her you know? But she’s taken with you and you’ve been so good to her so… thank you, we’re grateful.”

“You’re going to the Olympics. What the hell do you mean there’s no point Cain?” Mila frowned then, shaking her head. “What's going on? You’ve been acting weird for weeks now and if this is anything to do with Sebastian you need to tell me now because if this is you jealous because you don’t trust me or whatever then I don’t even know what to do! I thought it was just stress at first but it’s clearly linked!”

“I’m sensing handcuffs are involved?” Esme hummed, breath catching in her throat.

Tesni quietly wandered into the stables, putting her hands into her pockets and remaining quiet until she sat on one of the hay bales. "I've really needed you, I'm glad your here now."

"You want to go and start his career and focus on that then fine! I don't want you to be there to watch mine fall into nothing, it's going to be humiliating enough!"

"It's fine. It was never... it wasn't so much your words, more what happened previous to it." Nathan laughed humourlessly. "The bastard bruised my neck."

“My brother has a temper… but he also responds well to people owing him favours so…” Karsi headed into the kitchen before coming back in a moment later and handing over an envelope to Nathan. “The pictures you asked for are inside… all they ask for in return is to know whatever he told you about that night on the plane. They’re still grieving hard. Especially Lux…”

“What’s happened?” Wren asked as she moved to sit opposite her sister, picking out hay from underneath her.

“Cain you’re the current medal holder, you’re ranked at best in the world right now in the qualifiers. This is in the bag. What on earth are you talking about ruining your career?”

“Now if you’d lead with that idea then I definitely wouldn’t have been anywhere near as conflicted as I was.” Esme whispered breathlessly.

Tesni whispered, voice shaking. "He said he needed to be put down but he - it was just words, he grabbed his phone like - like he knew exactly who to go to, exactly who would do that for him and I don't know what to- I don't know what to do with that information. I want to go to his old army pals, or their family at least to just... I don't know. I'm stumbling in the dark and he is improving since that major break but now I feel on edge constantly instead. Wh- what if someone slams a car door too hard, o- or someone sets off fireworks we weren't expecting... what happens if h- he feels claustrophobic again and I'm not there or worse I am but it doesn't matter and he-"

"Fine. Not this week though. I need to be with Wren this week."

"I haven't! Everyone keeps saying that but I haven't! People need to fucking listen to me! I wouldn't wouldn't even gotten onto the team this year if I hadn't-"

Dale laughed quietly, kissing back up to her mouth.
