Karsi nodded in agreement. “We have guest rooms available if you want to stay for a few days to be with her. Not at the stage yet where I’m comfortable with you in her room but, I will have a room made up for you if you want one.” She offered.

“It’s… I’ve heard it before. From some of the others that have been ex military, special forces where they have to go covert. Sometimes when they’re out there in the middle of nowhere and can’t be extracted easily… if one of them lost their marbles - y’know like shell shock and shit like that or they just finally snap for whatever reason - and endanger the others with their actions, by like screaming or doing reckless shit or any of that they’d… usually have a pact to put them down. Y’know… quick bullet to the head to keep everyone else safe.” Wren swallowed thickly as she explained. “If he thought he needed putting down he probably thought he was a danger and needed stopping before he got anyone hurt… did he like… y’know… lose it?”

“If you hadn’t what Cain?” Mila flinched as he raised his voice. “Talk to me…”

“I think I’ve seen enough of the downstairs now… do I get a tour of your room.” Esme grinned against his lips.

“Hey, hey no.” Wren shook her head, pulling her into a tight hug. “He seemed okay out there, all smiles. He was probably just like really tired and scared and worried and if he flipped a table he probably felt out of control and just wanted to get some control back - it’s not that he wanted to leave you he just thought at that moment it was the best thing. It’s gonna be okay.”

“Just be aware of the menagerie around here… we don’t do late mornings.” Karsi chuckled.

“Cain talk to me! I’m your wife for fucks sake, I tell you every detail of my day down to when I had to blow my fucking nose and you’re hiding something from me? What's going on?! I’m worried.” Mila whined then.

“I’m here half naked telling you I’m looking forward to using your handcuffs and you’re asking me if I’m sure?” Esme raised an eyebrow with a laugh. “Where does the evidence point officer?”

Tesni shook her head, burying her face against her shoulder to muffle a sob as she hugged her back tightly. "I- I don't know what t- to do. I - I don't know what to d- do. "I made the team because I took something, okay?!"

"As long as you are fine with me sleeping in the day occasionally, dependent on my working shifts. I do nights sometimes."

Dale laughed quietly at that. "Very well then." He hummed before picking her up and carrying her up the stairs.

“Just let us know when you don’t want disturbing.”

“If they wake you up the gym is soundproof and since ive left I bet they don’t touch it if you need a place to escape to.” Tobias chuckled.

“It’s okay, it’s gonna be okay Tes. He’ll be okay.” Wren repeated as she rocked her gently. “He won’t leave you okay, he won’t leave you. I won’t let him leave you.”

“Y-you - you c-cheated?” Mila whispered, horrified as she took a step back. “N-no. This is a joke right? You wouldn’t c-cheat. No… Cain?”

“Nice wallpaper, great windows, the ceilings nice and high…” Esme commented with a smirk as she was carried through the house, “This is a fantastic tour.”

Esme laughed, moving to gently nip at his ear as she ran her hand down his back. “You sure?”

“Don’t mention to Elle what you do for a living either because she’ll spend an hour making the noise of the sirens.”

“Why the fuck would you take something Cain?! You’re not a cheat! You’ve never been a cheat! Why would you do that when you can do it anyway?! What the fuck Cain?! And I don’t even have to tell you this will put your career on it’s arse if you get caught out because you obviously know that so what the hell were you thinking?! You’ve worked your arse off and that’s all going to get discredited!”

“No, no. Stop. Pull yourself together Tesni.” Wren said firmly then, moving to sit on her knees in front of her and taking her hands. “He thought he was a danger to you so he wanted to no longer be a danger. This isn’t about being suicidal, or wanting to leave you, this was his tactical brain kicking in to the response he was conditioned to go to - dangers must be put down and he was the danger in that manic moment which is over now okay?”

Dale let out a low groan of content, kicking the bedroom door closed behind himself as they faded to black.

Nathan gave another nod, opening his mouth to respond before finally tuning in to Cain and Mila in the other room. Frowning at the screaming, "I think I'm going to go and find Wren. Are you coming?"

Tesni shook her head, sucking in a breath to try and calm down but ending up choking on it as another sob bubbled up from her chest.

"So stay the fuck at home where you don't have to watch it! That is what I am fucking telling you Mila!"

Tobias grimaced too at hearing it before nodding.

“I’ll go put him up to bed.” Karsi offered as she gently took Ezra from his arms. “You’re still staying here tonight right?”

Tobias nodded again as he headed outside.

“It’s gonna be okay Tesni, I promise nobody’s leaving you.” Wren moved to sit next to her again as she held her close. “It’s okay, it’s okay…” she soothed gently

“I don’t understand why you didn’t fucking talk to me first before you did this?! Why did you let it get this far?! Why didn’t you come to me?! What the fuck Cain?!”

“This doesn’t sound good.” Tobias frowned, putting a hand up to stop Nathan going any further as he tried to listen in.

“You’re going to have to give me an excuse for these.” Esme chuckled as she gently rubbed the marks on her wrists. “Though I suppose I could just say I was up to something I shouldn’t have been and this incredibly hot officer decided I needed locking up.” She teased as she moved to lay on his chest.

“I’ve done this… this is my fault.” Tobias swallowed thickly, shaking his head and walking back up to the house

“You can’t run from this Cain. You need to talk to me.” Mila grabbed his hand to try stop him going. “You didn’t talk to me then, you can’t not talk to me about this.”

"This isn't a conversation, this is you screaming at me! You wanted me to tell you, so I have. There isn't anything left to discuss!"

Nathan made a small noise of frustration, getting to his feet and walking to Wren and Tesni. Clearing his throat gently to alert them to his presence before directing at Tesni; "Tobias needs you."

Tesni just nodded, wiping ferociously at her eyes as she forced herself to gain composure. Getting to her feet and wandering away from Wren, placing herself down next to Tobias a few minutes later and slipping her arms around to bring him in closer. "Hi you."

"I went to my mom." Cain mumbled.

“Oh, hi. Thought you were having your moment.” Tobias swallowed as he leaned into her. “You okay?”

“Never a dull moment in this family.” Wren laughed softly as she wiped at her face, reaching a hand out to Nathan.

“You should’ve spoken to me Cain. You’ve made a career altering decision.”

Tesni nodded, before resting her chin on top of his head. Whispering thickly, "I just.. I was just telling Wren how scary it was nearly losing you, I was just telling Wren how no one has really checked in on us and I - I know she would of it she could. I've missed her. Are - are you okay?"

"What and you only want to be with me if my career is on track?"

"That may start an investigation, maybe don't say that." Dale laughed, kissing her gently. "That was.. you were.. wow."

“To say I don’t know what I’m doing I don’t think we did too bad.” Esme chuckled, kissing him back deeply, moving her hand up his chest. “That was amazing…” she agreed lightly.

“It’s not about that Cain it’s about the fact that you didn’t even tell me until I pushed. We’re supposed to be a team who talks about everything.”

“Tobi went off the deep end and she’s upset. Some sort of ptsd soldier stuff to do with the store collapse.” Wren wrinkled her nose. “What’s happening inside?”

“I’m just worried about you, about us… what I’ve done, feel like I’ve ruined it all.”
