Creatures of the Dark

He smiled softly.

When everyone had left, Alice remained at the table. "Is everything okay?" She asked them.

"I am fine! Go!" Caspian hissed through gritted teeth, encouraging her forward as he scrambled to his feet. Glancing over his shoulder and reaching an outstretched hand towards their pursuers.

Layla snorted her amusment, before beginning to sweat - forehead shining with it as her skin turned a beetroot red. Her core temperature going up, water in her body beginning to boil.

Eris looked at him. “I’m not leaving you.” She told him using her own powers to stop the vines before she sent the vines off onto the man.

The man looked to her. “Babe?” He asked. “You okay?” He looked to Caspian and Eris and he suddenly threw Eris into the trees behind her

Caspian moved his other hand, face blank despite the pain it must have caused his arm which now the bone protruded from, causing a wall of water to catch Eris and prevent her from being injured by the impact of the tree. His outstretched hand twitching, extending the bubbling of the blood to effect the man aswell. "Leave us alone." He warned lowly. "Leave us alone and no one has to die."

Due to still having Eris power the man was able to counteract the affect on him. “Give me the girl and you can go free.” He reminded him. “Look it’s cute that you want to defend her but really you’re better off alone.”

Eris looked to Caspian gratefully as she got to her feet before she joined Caspian using her magic to create a shield of sorts around them and she set about using her magic to heal his arm.

"You're wasting your focus on the wrong person here," Caspian warned lowly, wicked grin erupting on his face as Layla's legs went from beneath her and she slump into a heap on the floor. "She doesn't have long left. Make your choice; Eris' power or your lovers life?"

Eris managed to heal his arm enough to stop the pain and she moved to stand offering Caspian a hand up as she looked to the man. “You kill her your girl dies too.” He reminded him, suddenly producing Eris’ knife from his pocket. “You remember these don’t you? You kill my girl and yours will be in a never ending nightmare.”

Caspain scoffed, entirely unphased. Fingers twitching inwards to close his palm, Layla's breathing stopping as he dropped his hand to his side. His water spurting up into the same wall from behind, swirling - angry and vicious as it stayed behind and protected them. Pushing Eris forward once again, "Come on, let's get back."

Eris walked with him before the man tried his luck and he used magic to throw the knife he was aiming for Caspian this time to take them by surprise but Eris managed to catch it, the blade embedding itself in her palm and she sighed almost in relief that she had caught it.

"Notice how she isn't breathing and he doesn't go to her?" Caspian whispered to Eris as they walked, gently taking Eris' wrist and frowning at the blade. "Shows he doesn't give a shit really, doesn't it? I feel sorry for the woman."

“Same but at least if he comes back I have my knife back.” She told him. “Now we don’t need the demon, I can take my powers back using this.” 

When they were gone the man knelt by her side. “My darling I’m sorry.” He tried to use Eris magic to heal her but he didn’t really know how to do a good job of it

"Thorin can finally get out of our hair, wonderful. We need to let his son know too." He chuckled.

After a few silent moments, Layla gasped. Fingernails digging into the ground beneath her as his magic took ahold, as she healed and came back.

He sighed in relief. “Thank god for a minute then I didn’t think it would work.”

Eris nodded. “How’s your arm?” She asked him.

"Fine, like nothing had happened. Thank you."

"You let it get that far..." Layla mumbled distantly.

“I know and I’m sorry.” He told her gently kissing her hand.

“You’re welcome.”

Layla pulled her hand away with a flinch. "Not good enough... not.. not good enough."

"Mmm" Caspian hummed
