"Power I never knew I had. You haven't prepared me for any of this." Alessia gulped, letting out a slow breath and following his instructions.

"Every anniversary, birthdays.. for all of them, for me a- and I've got no one. Nothing."

"Until you decide to leave again."

"Go back," She commanded quietly. "Go back and then when you feel better we can grovel to each other."

Alessia let out a slow breath, though didn't go back straight away. Partly unsure how to, partly curious of her surroundings - walking tentatively through the room.

"I never wanted you to go to begin with. I begged. Humilated myself..."

"I was humilated." He choked. "A- and every time I did reach out to someone over the past year do you know what I would get? I'd be called a dick, I'd be told 'no one she ran from you'. I got - no - no one cares about me, Eris. No one. Even when I reach out and you were... you are thriving without me too."

Alessia froze, staring for a few minutes before slowly approaching. Stopping just beside her.

As soon as he would have opened his eyes, Seren would have been pulling her son into a hug.

"I am Queen. I am surveying my kingdom." Alessia answered, lifting her chin up to fake confidence. "You appear cosy enough here. I don't know if you deserve that."

"You must stop showing up back here half dead or... entirely dead, in this case. If it weren't for my genes there would have been no bringing you back, then what would have happened?"

"Please... everyone has told me how amazingly happy you were now I'm not in your life. What hasn't been going right? The business, that boyfriend even if he turned out vile..."

Seren shook her head, mumbling, "You need to be more careful."

"Why would I answer that? I don't owe you anything." She mumbled. "I've spoken to dad. It's- I can't believe how you treated him, all of my life, you -" Shw swallowed. "Tell me which version of you is real, this or - or the person you led me to believe you were growing up?"

"Because I don't know how to love you if you are evil. I don't know how to cope with having killed you if you are good. You have to be one or the other, you - you can't be both... it isn't fair."

"Promise me you will be. When your father hears what has happened today he'll have kittens."

"I don't know..."

"He ate chicken that was three days out of date last night, he is rough today." Seren snorted her amusment. "It is what he gets for not listening to me."

"You're horrible." Alessia whispered. "Horrible, and cruel and.. incapable of love."

He nodded subtly.

"I am sure he will be in to see you despite it, as soon as I tell him."

"Enjoy that last drink. I am going to be sending you somewhere less comfortable soon." Alessia mumbled, closing her eyes with an exhale. Her body jolting as she opened them back in the room with Damian and Seren, tears having been rolling down her face without her knowledge soaking her cheeks.

Caspian hugged her back quietly

"Why is it my mother is able to sit around sipping drinks like she is at some resort after everything she did?" Alessia questioned hoarsely as her fingers found his hair, relaxing into him. Her breath on his neck as she buried her face in the crook of it. Adding a muffled, "We need to change that."

Alessia was quiet then, just holding him close.
