Creatures of the Dark

"Brave little man," He praised, brushing fingertips through his hair. Glancing over his shoulder a second later towards the main halls outside of the room.

Belle was talking to one of the other nurses just doing her job she paid them no mind focussed on her own task.

Sabrina kissed her sons head holding him close almost protectively

Zion was quietly then

When the doctor was done, Sabrina sat with her son holding him to her as he snuggled into her much like he did as a young child. “You’re going to be okay.” Sabrina whispered to him

"I- Do you want to meet my aunt Belle, Bael? I think I saw her outside..."

Baelfire looked up at him and he nodded after a few minutes.

"Okay," He whispered, cautiously stepping out of the room and calling over, "Belle? Come - Come here?"

Belle looked up from her charts and she raised an eyebrow before she walked over. “Did you need something?” She asked.

"You - They want to meet you, but my name is Aeron here, understand? They do not know who I am, what I am. They don't know anything of our world so tread lightly. Bael's been having a rough time in school and you used to cheer me up so... maybe you can help him."

She nodded. “Alright, what do they know about me and you?” She needed to know the story of their relationship so that she could play along. For such did she raise him? Was he completely without parents?

"I do not know my father, my mother was constantly busy with other things so it was you I spent all of my time with." Zion informed, not lies. "I do not speak to any of them now, and we don't talk about the reasons behind that we just know it is for the best."

She nodded. “Got it…Right introduce me.”

Zion nodded, quietly stepping into the room. "Bael, Rina, this is Belle. Belle, my fiancè Sabrina and.. my son, Baelfire."

“It’s nice to meet you.” Sabrina smiled weakly. “I wish it was under better circumstances.”

Belle nodded in understanding. “It’s nice to meet you both too.” She told them and she gestured to the bed in front of Baelfire. “May I sit?”

Baelfire nodded and Belle sat next to him. “Have you been in the wars?” Baelfire nodded quietly. “You know with a scar like that you’re going to look really tough, like your dad.”

“Really?” Baelfire asked.

Zion moved around the room, wrapping his arms around Sabrina's waist and resting his chin on her shoulder quietly.

Sabrina leant into him. “What’s changed your mind?”

"I don't know... she was just.. here." He swallowed, turning his head to hide his face in the crook of her neck.

“Bael you stay here and get to know your Aunt Belle.” Sabrina told him and she looked to Zion. “Step out with me.” She told him as she got up and took his hand leading him outside of the room

"And leave them alone? No." He whispered so only Sabrina could hear, pulling his hand back.

“She’s your aunt why don’t you trust her?” Sabrina asked him.

Belle kept Baelfires attention from the adults and she reached into her backpack and pulled out a deck of cards. “Want to see a magic trick?” When the boy nodded she had him pick a card

"Belle." Zion warned lowly at the word. "'We discussed this outside of the room."

“It’s a card trick.” Belle told him. “Harmless bit of slight at hand.” She told him as she made the card ‘appear’ behind Bealfires ear and he laughed.

“How did you do that?” He demanded.

“Ah a magician never reveals a secret.” She told him.

Sabrina looked at Zion confused, she really didn’t see the problem with a harmless side show magic trick.

Zion just watched cautiously, frozen where he stood.

Baelfire smiled. “Do you have more?”

Belle raised an eyebrow as she thought. “Hmm I have one more.” She told him, shuffling the cards. “Pick a card but don’t show me or tell me.” She told him as she closed her eyes.

Baelfire picked a card and he showed it to his parents: the four of clubs. “Now put it back,” she offered him the deck and she reshuffled the cards. “Now your card is no longer there.” She told him as she turned the cards over and Baelfire shook his head when he couldn’t see it. “But I think something is trying to get away under your pillow.” He lifted up the pillow and his card had ended up there.

“Wow!” Baelfire smiled. “Dad did you see that?”

"I did, cool, huh bud?" Zion whispered, before finally stepping from the room as Sabrina had asked him to.
